"Don't gimme that..."
"Yeah, like I was the only guy that did a search for his own name!"
A lot of times, these are just some teen loser who had an underage girlfriend, though often, it's something more.
Depends on the state. In some states, the legal age of consent is thirteen, provided that the other person isn't more than a coupl'a years older. In some circumstances, if she 18 and you're over 24 there's trouble, too.
Random Sample:
The age of consent in Florida is 18, however close in age exemptions do exist. By law, the exception permits an adult under the age of 24 to engage in legal sexual activity with a minor no younger than the age of 16.
The age of consent in North Carolina in general is 16, though no school faculty member can have any sexual activity with any student more than 4 years their junior {ยง14-27.7}. Any sexual intercourse with a 13-15 year old is prohibited unless the defendant is less than 6 years older than the victim
(Some states, the marrying age is 14... and you're ok unless her parents don't like you.)

I did the above research, as a search of my neighborhood brought up a local teen, who just happened to have a younger girlfriend.(Immoral communication with a minor)

I've been told that, in MI (maybe elsewhere), you get a spot on that list if you're convicted of indecent exposure or any of a number of other related charges.
So, if you've had a few too many and moon someone, or earn some beads Mardi Gras style, or just can't hold it anymore and go behind a tree and someone sees you, you're toast. Talk about a good time gone bad.-Do what makes you happy.

Boy Scout leader, very cool...
Have seen too many parents that should not have been allowed to breed. Good for kids to learn some other values....
Not sure anymore what the scouts due here in CA..
They have been sued for use of "God" and for not wanting homosexuals as leaders in the past, so not sure if they are the same here as when I was a kid.

The problem with these lists is that, for privacy reasons, they don't give you enough information about the offender's crime. As Prom said, many of these poor schmoes probably had a teen girlfriend as a young adult, and either her parents got mad or the girl got vindictive and he got in trouble with the law. Or it was something most people would consider rather minor like public urination or making out in a car with someoene of legal age. Then the person has to register with the town police every time he moves and has to carry an Internets Scarlet Letter for the rest of his life. Sad where thinking with the wrong head can lead you these days.
But then there's the mugs of creepy old men who live around the corner that make you wonder.
Ultimately I think lists like this are what are contributing to the climate of fear in our country. As parents, we still have the responsibility to teach our children right, how to watch out for themselves, and to keep a viligent eye on who they are associating with.1981 XS1100SH

There is a similar system in our area... but it gives you the age of the victim and in most cases... a very basic description of the crime.
We found out through that site that, unfortunately, there IS a dirty old man around the corner who molested a 4 year old.
It's unfortunate that there will be people who are tagged who were never predators... and never will be... but there are getting to be more and more people out there who are... and will be.
We don't even let our kids play in the front yard by themselves anymore.

In every case (15 in my immediate area) the offense was in the last 5 years, and the offenders were obviously not teens (or twenty somethings, either) when they occured. Pretty amazing there's so many around here. One guy had to be like 80 or 90....crazy.
I found it rather humorous that one of them was a guy I knew in high school. He was nailed for incest and sexual battery 4 years ago. The dude was a pathetic ass back then and apparently little has changed. His sister was no looker, either...
I bet between the 2 of them there wasn't even a half a set of teeth.
The people that are the truly fearful ones are the ones that fall for the "get background information" scheme that the site runs with each profile. And of course, they tout it to "protect your children". Kind of disappointing, really. It's that kind of crap that spreads fear, for sure......or at the very least it takes advantage of the fearful.80 XS1100SG

The bottom line is there are many many bonofide child molesters out there and about. If they were properly punished they wouldnt be out ever. You cant cure them.
I was looking through the map for my town and after looking at the ones that were close I started branching out and found a old man about 75 that I recognized who used to work at a convenience store right up the road from us. Sick sick bastards I have nothing but disdain for anyone who would mess with a child.1993 ZX11D

I believe most local police depts. will furnish lists of local offenders. The newspaper here always provides names and photos when they're released back into the general public. The local police cadets also go door to door with pamphlets if one returns to a neighborhood.
After I had bought my house, I was told there was a molester living at the end of the block. I was gonna go down there and "introduce" myself, till a neighbor told me that the man was moving soon... and it was his ex-wife that had him "set-up" as a molester...over a custody conflict.
Sadly, I now know several men who have been penalized in this manner by their once loving wives."Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!' ('Bones' McCoy)

That's OK, been just faking.............
I did hear about you trying to "visit" your neighbor and I don't blame her for not opening the door when you knocked.... pic from peep hole...
and just because they would not let you in......................
would have been OK.....
but the people you were looking for lived across the street

As for me borrowing and wearing O.J.'s mask... I think not. I find that half the fun of intimidation is in letting your transgressor realize just who it is that is confronting them. Anything else... would be just a random killing. And what's the fun in that?"Damn it Jim, I'm a doctor, not a mechanic!' ('Bones' McCoy)

I be leave in allowing a second chance for minor problem people, but to allow repetitive offenders to live among the general population is wrong. Don't know the answer.....and sure my solution would be considered "inhumane".
