    Steve,

Check out cops in england... see any wearing guns?
I'm all for australian flogging.... but I think they gave that up... too bad.
Go sit in a corner and think about what you did just doesnt cut it.
So, Steve, what you say is, some of your ancestors got to USA coz they would hang them in england?
Hmmm... methinks it was more bout eating every day and surviving and maybe a prospect of a better future for themselves and their families. OK, I see not being hung fits well. I wonder how "natives" thaught about it.
Got any on this board btw? Would be a shame not to...
But I agree with HobbyMan here... deterrants.... didnt I see some cages and rotting bodies in them in a movie somewhere.... Great deterrent! But I guess health and safety and green guys would object. Too bad.
So, the land of the "free", where kids are allowed to kill your puppy and they they go sit in a corner for a while. I bet that makes you feel quite free. I would buy a few dozen guns too in that case, and shoot at all trespasers. And whoever might be in the way of oil. Anywhere in the world. Thank god we dont have oil here.
So, death sentence... I am all for it. If the guy didnt do it, too bad. A good deterrant anyway. But that is again close to dictatorship and hitler and god knows what else. So I suppose we have to find a middle way.

TC... I've worked for a pest control company for over 20 years. We also do "wildlife"control for people. This consists of removing , normally by live trap ,nusiance wild life. Possums, coons, squirells, skunks, etc. We also do the repaie or exclusion work to keep them out. By law here in Ohio we can not trap and release many of the animals we trap. We have to put them down. Then we have to store the remains and get a special permit to take them to the dump. The way that we put them down is the use of CO [carnon monoxide]. This is aproved by all the regulatory agencies and has been okayed by PETA.
They have also given their aproval to several mouse and rat traps thay we use.
PETA's stated philosphy is. A rat is a pig isa dog is a boy"
No animal should suffer but.........Just read more about them.

TC...I didn't really finish my thought. Using CO gas puts much less stress on the animal than lethal injection. When we used CO2 they would struggle and to try to stick a coon fighting off the needle inside a cage stresses everyone. With the CO gas they do just "lay down and go to sleep". This from personal experience over 20 years.
We would much rather release the animals back to nature, because after all they are just doing what they are supposed to do. They just picked someones deck or attic. But because we are a larger company we have to be sure and follow the laws.

"The flaw in the death penalty is that its real hard to correct when you find out that the person you just executed didn't do the crime they convicted for."

No doubt not a good thing to be wrongly accused and executed. But if I was wrongly accused I would rather be put to death than linger around in prison for 50 years. Life in prison would be far worse for a sane person. As far as lethal injection goes when my time comes Id much rather have that than cancer or some other horrible disease for my demise. If for just a minute you could have all the folks become of right mind that are in nurseing homes I would bet most if not all welcome the injection, wouldnt you?

            Hey Jeffe,

Thanks for that info. I was only thinking of Cyanide which I knew was very painful!

However, what you say is contrary to what is coming out in the trial, that PETA or at least this local office was against gassing? Yet, your branch has given it their approval? Oh well!

As for the other topic here, I'm all for capital punishment. With the advent of DNA evidence it helps to further ensure that the right person is being convicted, and is also setting them free after years of false imprisonment...a double edged sword!

My understanding of the criminal justice system is to protect society at large, and to remove from society those individuals that do not conform to society's laws. Some of these folks may be rehabilitated, but I would say many/most can not, and the level of their crime.....murder being most, should be met with the strongest deterrent possible. And that FINAL removal from society completely like John said is what makes the most sense, both socially and economically.

            Strom,
It's been said here recently, it's difficult and unfair to draw a comparison between the US and other European countries. Different cultures and mindsets. And Dictators like Sadam and Hitler murdered thousands, millions, WITHOUT any true due process of law, legitimate laws at that. Nuff said.

              More likely religious persecution.

Well due to the unavailablitly of white women on the frontier, I am a fair percent Native American on both sides of my family. Fathers family - german in Missouri early 1800's.

That is the way most people want the criminal justice system to work, without understanding the consequenses of it. History is great teacher that most seem to ignore.

                Way to go Steve!
As long as we can discuss saving the world while drnking a nice cold beer, things arent that bad.
But them ragheads... they dont drink alcohol... we must kill em all! (Hope noone took me seriously on that one)
Religious prosecution... well... dont get me started on that one.
