Which owner are YOU

I am the first and third owner of Old Red, an 81 SH. I had the dealer add a sport faring, crash bar, rear rack with adj. back rest, out the door price was $3,450. I rode it 42K trouble free miles and then sold it to a friend. He ran it hard for about 8K more miles. I bought it back from him 15 year ago and it has been waiting to be restored. I have most of the required parts to get it back on the road, just having a hard time finding the time.

I am guessing, but I know of at least two previous owners on each of mine. But I am proud to be whichever owner that I am.

I did buy new the only XS1100 that my Yamaha dealer in my home (NC) town got in 1978. Kept it for 7 years and sent it to the next owner (GA) who was looking specifically for the 78E at the time.

On the poll I had to go with #4, Who knows, Not me. When in fact I do know how many previous owners it had. When I registered my bike I had to buy a "History" of the previous owners. It had 10 registered previous owners with the last one not registering it, bringing the total to 11 previous owners. On average the previous owners only kept it 2 years before letting it go, with one owner buying it twice. I have owned it now 14 years with no end in sight.

I am the 2nd owner 1980g it's Canadian had 3000km.I bought it the summer of 82 paid $3000.cdn I think it was $4200.new from dealer.Still goes and looks as good as the day I got it has approx. 200,000km rode with the speedo cable broke for a few years fixed now.

Have been online trying to find a site that tracks vin numbers to see how many previous owners my xs has had. Is there one??

No database will go back that far, I assume. There are fifty states. The one I'm in won't even issue a title for a bike that old. I expect tracking a VIN on one of these could offer up quite a challenge.

You could always try http://micapeak.com/reg/view2/XS11/all/1/75/YYYYYYY/ . It is always possible that one or more previous owner posted on that registry. Takes a few minutes to check it out but might shed some light on your bikes providence.

i have 3 whole xs 11s and 2 parts bikes
1 of my bikes, i bought brand new in 1978
imagine a 19 year old kid with a bike like that
that year all the cycle mags said it was the fastest that year
and it was.

In 1978 I was 19 and bought a brand new xs eleven. Everybody was telling me how ugly it was but for me it was beauty on two wheels... Oh! and I was pulling everybody except a few exprerienced guys. Made two trips; 1979 and 1980, from my small town to Daytona (5000 mi. roundtrip ) without a single problem, maybe a little oil. I now own a 1981 special and on my way to buy a 1978 all original, but the exhaust, including the paint wich has some scratches. It will be my winter project.

Not the original owner.

But I did get a bunch of receipts for carburetor work on Yami. I think he sat for too long between rides. I have had zero running problems.
However I am more than old enough to be the original owner.
First new bike after several used, was a 68 350 Kawasaki, followed by a 69 500 Kawasaki and a 71 Norton, and a bunch of new dirt bikes. Last new bike was a 006 SV1000S Suzuki Bluzu, that is in the shed with Yami.
Next bike will be a cheap used 400 Yami junior.
Next new might be a Moto Guzzi.
Forgot to mention. Also bought a few new Yamaha road race bikes last being a TD2B

I found a color on my tank that was not from my year model while sanding for a paint job and have found a few other things that were questionable about my bike but the title and vin says 80 and it has plastic floats so I assume its an 80 but who knows how many people have molested this poor thing. The title was not in the guys name I bought it from so..... It runs like a beast and I love it is so who cares.

Seems like the 2 XS1100's that I've owned both were basket cases to start off with. This latest on the PO said he rode it for 4 hours the week before. LOL Not wanting to believe that story after tearing into the current one.

I'm the third owner of my bike. Bought new by a friends older brother, then sold to mutual friend who rode it twice. He had it seven years. And I bought it from him.

im a third owner but have put more kms on it since 2009 than 1st and 2nd owner did since 1979.
