First, sorry I spelled your last name incorrectly!
Secondly, my comment was about presence of the KING/QUEEN style seat! !
Thirdly, I saw the slotted rotors, so I thought it was an 80, didn't check your profile!
Like I've said before, I'm not perfect!
Erik, WRITING ON THE CALENDER WOULD BE SACRILEGE!!!!
That's what post-it's are for ! ! !

Wildcat & others:
I,m checking this thread every day, enjoying the great ideas & feedback. I don't have time for a lenghty reply right now (a guy has to make a living sometime!) but I'm working on a reply that I hope to post this weekend.
Write on!

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!
My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
I've been riding since 1959.
When I replaced the rotors I up graded The seat is Yamaha and re covered John has the stock seat The Black is not stock or I could not keep up with you.

Thanks for all the great ideas. Here are my thoughts so far.
Although someone said that our beloved bike was introduced in1977, it seems that it was truly 1978 for which I can find the earliest reference. There is a copy of the introductory brochure (for the 1978 model) on the “pictures” page that I think would make an ideal starting point: say, the first 2 pages. Besides the photo it gives a rundown of all the technical features. Of course I would have to get permission from Yamaha to use it, but I think they would be idiots to refuse! Thanks, Topcat, for the picture of “The Black” and your ideas for the calendar that you posted. I think the pics posted on the tiny “day” squares, really don’t do the bikes justice. I would rather post smaller than 8 x 11, say 4x5 photos on a separate page for the birthday boys and girls. I am leaning toward a larger than 8x10 format and extra pages for birthday and rally pics. Of course they would cost more: I’m guessing at least $25 per. After all, in reality, the calendar is really just an excuse to print the pictures, right? I mean, if you want a freakin’ calendar to write on, do what I do and go get a large 16 x 20 utilitarian calendar with large squares on which to write important dates, bills due, etc.
Which reminds me, this would be a good time to print important rally dates ahead of time. I could see printing the Lake Tahoe Rally on Labor Day weekend. There’s the Hollister Rally on the 4th of July, and Laguna Seca near Monterey CA hosts the Moto GP every year on the weekend after Independence Day. I’m sure you can think of other notable events.
I have created an email account just for submitting Photos. I am going to start another thread with the email address and criteria for submitting photos, and a deadline for submissions. I like the idea of having a vote / contest to select the bikes, mostly to take the heat off of ME for making the decisions!
So far I’m thinking about the following categories: Best Stock (restored or original); Touring / Bagger; XJ; Street Fighter / Super Modified; Rat Bike; did I miss something? Two or three of each would work, but with all the creativity of the other categories, do we really need more than one “stock, maintained or restored as original” bike? Oops, I guess my bias is showing! I invite comments on this issue, but for now I think just getting photos submitted is the important thing.
I am sorry to say I haven’t read or bought “XS11 Heaven,” but I want to, and would gladly include quotes from his writings just because of the incredible contribution that the author has made to the preservation of our bikes! He definitely deserves a very honorable mention!
I’ll post a new thread just to make sure the info regarding the submission of photos stands out, and to add to the number of my official post, bringing me closer to being the first official MAD MONK of the XS11 web site! MUAH-HA-HA-HA-HA!!!

Sorry, bit off-topic:
It was first introduced to the public in february or march 1977 in the show-eldorado in Las Vegas. At that point it was still a XS1000, but with the appearance of the Kawasaki Z1000 Yamaha decided to convert it into a XS1100. That must have been around august 1977. Introduction of the production bikes to the press was january 1978 in Senegal, Africa. In Europe there are still some handmade 1977 prototypes amongst collectors, one of them is still used regularly.

Leave it to Maximan to add cheese cake.
Do we want it?
"If you work on it as hard as you drive it, It will last forever. " My SWMBO would like to think so. Oh, you were talking about scooters! I thought ... oh never mind.
