I'm one of those riders that has no fear whatsoever of the ride...and the possible consequences for myself.

I ride, and I ride hard.

That said, there is one thing that does give me pause...rather brilliantly illustrated here...sheesh...I've written about stuff like this and it still makes me think.

This is about a 9 minute video...watch it all the way through. It's food for thought, and well worth your time.

I'm not sure just what the moral of this story is BUT, I think they should have trashed out some sh!t @ss Harley instead of that cool @ss Norton Commando! I mean, come on man, did you see how pretty that bike was! (sniff) How could anyone be so mean to such a great bike?! (sniff, sniff) I can't believe I'm about to cry over a stupid little movie. It should have been a Harley man, there's kazillions of those, it should have been a Harley.

I watched this the other day and had to walk away. 2 days after watching, my daughter who was home from collage and had never in her life been on a motorcycle asked me to take her for a ride on the 1100. I jumped at the chance to show her the joys I had found with this bike. But damn if that movie did not creep into my mind. I was extremely careful the entire ride. After we got home she said “Well Dad I either need a boyfriend with a motorcycle or a motorcycle of my own”. I suggested, very strongly, she get her own and learn to ride it right. Shame about the Commando.

It disturbed me on a profound level. I don't know if it's because of other events in my life right now, or befcause it was just was just profoundly disturbing.

Either way, I wish I hadn't seen it.

That's a very deep and disturbing reminder for us to keep our wits about us when we ride.

I've managed to crash every bike I've had except 2 hondas. Lucky for me have only two minor lasting "injuries".

Both my daughters want to ride, and I don't tell em not to.
But I will not give them a bike and when they get serious enough to ask me to help pick one out plan to have them watch a few of the videos which show the possible consequences.

Up to now they know how much I enjoy riding every chance I get, but need to KNOW the other side to take riding seriously.

Wow, my kids watched it with me, I have one driving, and it really affected us all....

I did note though, being a California movie, it did specifically say at the end,

NO animals OR Morotcycles were harmed in the making of this film... so it must have been an already trashed bike.


Still... affects me.

Sorry. I didn't intend to terribly shock folks...it is one of my worries...my passengers. I worry more about them and the other riders accompanying me than I do myself.

My actions and choices...or lack of them...will impact me in my life and in my riding...and that's as it should be.

When my actions and choices...or lack of them...impact others is when I worry.

I know I'm good enough to take care of myself.

I just have to hope I'm good enough to take care of my passenger.

I was speachless, and profoundly impacted. Gonna be alot of second thoughts when my daughter or wife wants to go for a ride. It does exibit the risks we all take when we get on on a bike, and with alot of us, we know firsthand what the risks are. Still we decide to do it because we love to ride and I for one actually enjoy the rush of knowing the risks, and the rewards. I have been fortunate that its been 32 years since a ride ended in a ride in a ambulance and I believe my skills and caution levels have kept me safe so far. My sence of alertness has dramaticly been raised now if I am packing a passenger since it is usually one I hold very dear to me. Still, I will ride, but my fingers and foot may twitch a lttle more on brake levers.

Whenever I have a passenger, either GF or Sister, I always take extra precaution. No speeding or any other funny buisness. I know I can't prevent hitting animals, but I try to do everything right just in case. I never travel more than 10 miles without good gear(money, lighter, Jackets, phone, tools, etc) You knever know what is going to happen. I try to ride with my Dad as much as possible. One bike is very vulnerable, two is MUCH safer. And when riding at night, If you ride side by side, people think you are cops and they get out of the way. I was a coulple hundred feet gehind my Dad on a local street. He was esentially by himself. As I was trying(speeding) to catch up to him, a car pulled out right in front of him from the opposite direction. He as doing nothing wrong and he was almost killed. Luckily, he he slowed eough after locking his rear wheel, he just missed the car. All of this was 1mi from my house. that just goes to show you that anything can happen. Things like this keep your nerves on edge.

I don't as a rule take passengers, thats why my wife, son, and daughter all know how to ride. Only my daughter makes it a practice to be a passenger on her significant other's Speed Triple. This has always been a fear of mine, I will take responsiblity for myself but don't want to be responsiblie for injuries to others. I will show this to all I know who ride. I've been hit by birds and a squirrel falling from a tree. i also live near a state park with a large deer population, which means I try not to ride at dawn or dusk in that direction.

The moral of the story is "It's a jungle out there, be carefull.
