    Hey Steve,

Yeah, I had found the Exact Model # of the one I'm trying to fix, 5BW160 and had found and downloaded all of the required drivers in anticipation of reloading Windows and such. Talked to her today, she told me she had to have the MoBo replaced 6 months after she had bought the thing many years ago, so sounds like a flaky production line! I can't see it being the PS, but I do have another ATX PS I can test it with, just a PITA to swap it out of the cases!

Mike/MRO is checking on some Mobo options for me, the one I had found on Ebay was only for Celerons 330Mhz or P2s!

I'll let you know IF I need to get that CPU from you, but hopefully not. Wish this was a bigger case, then I could get ANY P3 Mobo and stick it in there pretty cheaply, but finding the uATX is a little tougher!

I found a note that you have watch the hole spacing on the MB's, as sometimes the case was different from the standard uATX. And I just tossed out a uATX board that I could have measured.

That 5BW160 is actually the MB number, the model number should 5002xx or something like that.

          Hey Steve,

Well, this is a Presario series 5000, but printed on the FRONT inside the disc holder compartment are the words:
MODEL # and 5BW160, and when I did a search on the HP/Compaq site, it came up with the required info and specs for this machine!

I haven't heard from MRO in several days, don't know if he's away for the Holidays, or just very busy in the Holiday Rush!?

Mike, can you let me know about those MoBo's you were looking into!? Thanks!

I just checked Ebay again, found some new listings!

One was an Original Compaq Micro ATX for PIII, with 800Mhz CPU, working pull.

The others are 2 types of AOpen Mobos, one just the MoBo, their MX34.

The other is AOpen MX3W-Pro with 833 PIII CPU. Both says they take 133Mhz SDrams, but I currently have 100Mhz chips!

Will these Aopen Mobos work with the 100Mhz Ram chips, albeit a little slower?? I checked the Aopen site, downloaded the manuals, but they just say they support the 133 Mhz chips!? The Aopens are in Canada, around $20.00 plus $15.00 S&H, the Compaq starts at $1.00 bids, only $7.50 S&H!

Do you think I should try to get the Compaq (INTEL)Mobo, or should I get the Aopen....I know that brand.

If they don't, I have a couple of 256mb PC133's you can have.

                    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

                    Cmon guys, really.... PLEASE!!!!!!!
FFS.... throw the whole lot in the garbage and get a new(er) PC.
Get a cheap nice old laptop or something....
you can get a decent PC for bout 250$ US here... add another 50 and you get a new new one... with warranty and DVDRW and 512 RAM and ok.. only 80 gb hdd... and all the crap. And I am from a very very poor country from ex yugoslavia
FYI: I sold a P4 2.4 GHz, 512 MB RAM, 40GB HDD, CDRW-DVD, modem, NIC, IR, the whole lot... notebook with bad display for 150$. It was HP Compaq N1020v... I could replace the display for 100$, but I had two of them and didnt need one.

Just toss the junk... not worth the effort.
IMHO its the mobo... didnt see a dead P3 cpu in quite a while. Might be the power supply. Check the capacitors... if any have bloated
But no... just pick it up, go outside, throw it in the trash! I know it takes some $$$ to get another decent working PC, but its worth it. I just got my GF a new 19 inch LCD display... and my dad a 21 inch one for his DTP work. And I am still broke But I have saved me some mad hair-pulling.

Strom just you don't understand, it’s not about fixing a PC, it’s about the challenge of fixing a PC. Sure you could buy a used P111 comp for under $100, but what would the challenge be with that?

                        Update!

                        Well,

I got a used replacement MoBo for the Compaq off ebay $23.00 with Shipping, installed it and fired right up, so CPU and PS was okay, just flaky MoBo.! In the interim Jerry provided a replacement system for her, so I'll be able to turn this one around and give it to another needy person where I work that doesn't have one and is on a tight budget!

Steve, Losershoes, another system I have seems very finicky, and may possibly ONLY take/use PC133 ram, I've tried several of the PC100's, and I still keep getting just a solid beep tone and No Boot! Are you still willing to part with those chips? Let me know, and what you want for them?
                        Thanks all!
