  • Mercedes... cutting edge technology

I just thought I'd share this. This is an ad in the recent Maxim magazine toting on the new V8 engine Mercedes has put together.... anyone recognize the cutting-edge technology they are using for the duel overhead cams and valves? Think they come with a 29mm shim??

It's old technology and some marketing geek is just bragging about doing something a little different than they did the year before. It's kind of like when Honda trade marked the term "pent roof combustion chamber" when the term had been around since before Mr. Honda was born.

As I recall, the Fiat 124 sport was DOHC with shim and bucket cam followers a few years before Japanese bikes started turning up with them. VW was using the same set up with SOHC engines starting around 1974 and it was far from new then.
