Geezer... After three days of training in Costa Mesa, I have finally attained my life long goal...
I'm now a certified, school-trained Vespa technician.
All the women from the local liberal college will be flocking to my side... and showing their unshaved armpits as they raise their hands to wave to me. I can hardly wait.
And yes Geezer, me on a Vespa, with my pants low in the back, will be showing plenty of "mechanic cleavage' for you to wave at!

Funny thing is my second bike was a Vespa and I've hated them ever since. I always hated working on all flavors of scooters.

Around here most scooter riders are gay guys. If there were a lot of cute college girls riding them, I might consider working on scooters for the attention. I'm too old to get any college girl action so it doesn't make any difference. For me it boils down to I don't consider scooters to be real motorcycles.

Back in the early 90's when I blew the engine in my Guzzi and quit riding for awhile, waving was well on the way out. When I got the Mongrel together and started riding again a couple years ago, it was a strange experience to have every other biker wave...

When I was young(er) all my riding was the two-handed/all eyes on road variety. No time for waves. I didn't even realize that other riders did wave to each other. Now I kick back a bit more and wave when I'm not too busy trying not to get mashed by a cage!

I was introduced to the whole waving thing when I was on one of my first rides on a motorcycle. I was just tooling down the street and saw a guy working on a bike in his garage. He looked up and saw I was riding and looking and waved. Caught me a little by surprise, but I waved back. Good feelings ensued. It felt like there was a secret club I was now a part of.

Now I just wave to be friendly to anything with a motor and two wheels. Most times they're returned. (Living in small towns in northern Michigan could have something to do with it too) I don't like, however, when I meet a whole string of bikers because I feel like an @$$ if I ignore them, but just holding my hand down for that long isn't comfortable. In those cases, I may substitute a head-tip or head-nod if they, as individuals, wave first.

All in all, I appreciate it when others wave to me, so I try to do it too.

I ride a mountain bike quite a bit. I always wave at bicycles because I think, "I should probably be riding my bike and getting some exercise!".....then I think.... ,"Ah, to hell with it." and twist the throttle!

I kinda like thw whole waving thing. I believe it shows a general common courtesey and respect for your fellow biker. I have'nt been riding all that long...seriously riding anyway...back when I rode my little 400 Kaw, I'd go get my learners permit at the beginning of the season and never get around to taking the test or the class. a couple years ago, I decided that I wanted (A) a bigger bike, and (B) my endorsement. so, two years ago, I got the endorsement, and 18 months ago, I got my XS...now I wave to all on two wheels....motorcycles, scooters etc...

I wave to all brands and all types; seldom to bicycles but I do wave to scooters though.
However, I've noticed that I SELDOM receive a wave if I'm riding my dual-purpose Kawasaki. What gives there?
As for me riding one of my "dressers"; I'll get more waves in return from the Beemers and the crotch rockets than the Harley riders in this area, and it seems that Gold Wing riders always wave.
As for the 'Wing riders always waving in return; not if I'm on the dual-purpose -- -- -- -- but they are still more apt to wave back than the other brands.

I have noticed

That it seems like when a V twin rider waves, that the bike is quite often a metric cruiser. Most of those guys started on a Japanese bike, and don't hold it against those who still ride them.

Ahhh its all good! Out here in S.E. Washington ( desert country if you didn't know. less than 6" of rain a year) anybody on 2 wheels is all good.

I always wave and almost always get a wave back. I found that most of the hardley guys love anything on 2 wheels. I like looking at their bikes too. Hey 20k sitting on 2 wheels is impressive!

Yea, that is interesting about those "duel purpose bikes (and riders.)
They do seem to be a breed apart. I "wave" at them, but seldom get a wave in return. I think it's because they aren't used to the attention! I once had a Honda CL (or something- or- other) 350: a "duel purpose" 350 thumper. Other riders would give me a strange look when I waved. I may as well have been on a... well, a Vespa!
If I were to move onto a mineing claim, or get some property in the boonies I could seriously see getting a Kawie 650 thumper!
