I agree with that! I also find that just about anyone with a square headlight is pretty quick with a wave. My favorite though, is pulling up next to a Hardly rider and watching their expression change from "Yeah...Right" to "WTF!!" as they get smaller in my rear view!

Maybe it's a regional thing, here's my story (and I'm stickin' to it) when I lived in MN all the HD guys (me included) would wave at each other, (20 years ago) sometimes an older guy on a Gold Wing or on rare occasions, any other bike would wave (never sport bike riders, unless I was on my Ducati) and I would always smile and wave back, then I moved to MT where everybody waves, even people in cars, I mean pick-ups, maybe cuz it could be days until you see another rider. Now I'm in Eastern WA where everybody on a bike waves at everybody else, I even wave at the motorcycle cops who sometimes wave back. (or they give me that WTF? look) oddly enough I've been back to MN a couple of times and my buddy lets me ride his HD, now even the other HD riders won't wave back.

..in many cases, the reason harley riders dont wave is because they are new riders, are scared sh!tless and won't take there hands off of the bars. but in most cases they are just peckerheads.

I try to wave if my hands are free. If they are not, I give the head tip. I don't wave at motocops any more because they keep starting at me like I am going to be their next meal ticket

I always wave. And I find that plenty of HD riders wave now while several years back they did not. My theory is that most of the HD riders wave because they cannot identify if they are waivng at another HD rider or someone on a V-twin knockoff.

Anyway, it is just a common courtesy. Besides, if I wave and the other rider does not, then I figure I am a step above and that speaks well for any XS rider.

You guys have the right idea! I have worked with troubled kids for years and I have said about a million times, "You can't control how anybody acts or reacts except youself.

I wave cause I wanna wave, not just to get one back. Same reason I return extra change. So what if the clerk pockets it..I did the right thing!

I usually wave. I agree that older riders and those that have been riding quite awhile tend to wave more. Now days it seems that the more SQUIDs (Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Inexperienced and Dangerous) there are the fewer wavers there are. This could also be because squids are afraid to let go of the left handle.

I see alot of HD dissing on this one (as usuall) and I agree for the most part, but I find that one brand rider that practically never ever waves at other bike types is the BMW rider. Im not sure why, but I believe that I, statistically, have never had a BMW rider wave at me.

speaking of squids, I think it is funny that whenever It is below 60deg here, you see squids hunched over "trying" to duck under their "windshield." In the mean time, I sit straght up with no windshield and am comfortably warm. As you would expect, they usually never wave back. I get more waves from HD riders than from those riding the asian "sportbikes/ donorcycles."

Around here on a nice day there can be almost as many bikes on the road as cages. Hwy 9 requires two hands on the bars most of the time, but it does look cool to see some cruzer rounding a curve with the riders left hand out almost scraping the ground in the two finger salute.
My favorite is the Hawaian surfer "hang loose" sign: thumb and little finger extended. I try to catch myself and flash it insted of the "bird." The other one I like is to flash the little finger. It means "for those who don't care enough to give the very best."

I try to wave whenever I can, just because I can! Many times though, my "newness" keeps me from letting go.

I wave all the time. Some return it, some don't. For the ones who use a "My hands were busy" excuse.... a nod would suffice also. If no wave or head nod is extended back, they either didn't see me, or they have no concept of the two-wheeled family... and as such, I wouldn't want someone like that as a member of MY family anyway!

Oh c'mon.... you know you want to be a member of my family!! That way you can talk about that retarded, 2nd cousin twice removed from Oklahoma you sorta know... lol (From you're significant other's side of the family obviously!)
