  • Xj1100lj ,where Are They?

Do some of you know how many XJ1100LJ ( midnight maxim) YAMAHA made ? I think it is one of the nicest bikes ever made , but I guess there are very few of them! I have never seen one for sale, but I am still hoping to get one someday!
The picture section of this forum is missing a picture of this model,so I will try to find a good picture.

Based on past threads, the Midnight Maxim was never sold in the US. Some people have claimed to see one (or more) but on closer inspection the bikes turned out to be smaller Yamaha 4-cylinder models. Some people believe the black XJ, because the tank emblems tend to turn gold with time, is a Midnight. None of the Yamaha parts lists or VIN numbers indicate the existence of an '82 XJ Midnight. Although it is mentioned in literature, and may have been produced for other markets, I've yet to have a confirmed siting of one.

If you see one, please take a photo of it and post it to the site! If you can, get the VIN number to confirm it is an 1100, not one of the smaller displacement models.

Hi, another one from Norway, nice

What is the differens between XJ11J and XJ11LJ ? I believe it`s just black engine/gearbox?

If so, buy a XJ11J and paint it. I have one

More to it than that. Other Midnights have gold caps on the outer 2 carbs (1 and 4) plus gold accents on rims, grab bar, and side cover emblems. Exhaust system is black. Transmission is black but engine cases have gold accents. There are other differences; from the XS11 home page, click on Pictures and look at the photos of the Midnight Specials that are posted there. One from Bob Garcia (a 1981LH) shows off the gold accents very well.
