      Hi TomKat,
as has been said, to get a paint job to stick on chrome you have to roughen the chrome up a whole bunch with a sandblaster. Thing is, if you find later that you hate the painted look, tough! Bar ponying up for new chrome fenders or a polish & replate, you are stuck with it

I got chrome. Like the shiney stuff.

Have to relate a sticker I saw at Bike Night.

I don't have any issues with chrome...just with polishing!
This was just something I threw together to get back on the road. It's got an xj1100 front end and tail light on it, but it's a little cousin 850. There's just something about flat black that says, "Low maintenance," don't you think?

          sorry, no signature--illiterate!!

Personally, I think if you want to retain the retro look of the bike keep the chrome (or have it redone). They just dont chrome fenders anymore and I think its part of the classic look of the bike. That said, if you do want to color them, it also recomend powder coating. Its practically bullet proof if done right.

            Cheers.

You could do like I did. Pick up a nice chromed pair on eBay and paint the other pair!
