  • Hep Me ,Hep Me!!

Gotta find a petcock rebuild kit for Wildkat's (that *^%@FJ) FJ11. Didn't have any luck at BikeBandit or on Ebay. My local shop owner checked his parts catalog, and it says they are discontinued.
Anybody have any ideas? I'm going to search the web some more, maybe I will get lucky.

    John,

Speed and Sport has the following. (Looked up an '84 FJ):

    47X-24523-00-00 VALVE RD500 LC 84 47X 1 $6.66

    2G2-24534-00-00 SEAL,COCK XS750 SE, SF 2G2 8 $5.09

    2G2-24512-00-00 GASKET XS750 SE, SF 2G2 15 $6.65

    Speed and Sport

Now, crate up that sister-in-law and ship her out!

I already had a thread about how my bike quit running right after I paid $6.66 for gas.....

Everybody tried to convince me I'm just superstitious...

        Numbers

Don't worry about the $6.66 for gas; 'just a number as far as I'm concerned.
My daughter, who's soon to be 19, was born on a Friday, the -- -- --- uhhh, 13th!
I also have a big ride planned starting on the upcoming Oct. 13th, a Friday also.
Friday the 13th has brought me GOOD luck for nearly 19 years now!

Are you headed to the Suches rally on the 13th? I am heading that way on the 13th. I am really NOT superstitious but that was a wierd deal!

            Not a problem

We found the whole petcock assembly on Ebay for what the rebuild kit would have cost.

I remembered reading your post. I think the bad luck started when the gas price went over $3.00 anyway. I am not REAL superstitious about these things but I do tend to avoid anything priced at $6.66.

As for the 13th... usually my luckier of days... although Thursday the 12th hasn't brought the happiest of circumstances... and a black cat lives with us that constantly crosses our paths...
(hmmmmm... that COULD explain a few things)

About the XS11 petcocks... just found out 2 things.

1st: You HAVE to sand the flat surfaces. The body where the vacuum hose plate attaches and at the bottom plate. Also the lever thingie on the inside. And anything else flat on there. Just take a piece of glass, duct-tape some sanding paper on there, some WD40 and go. 250-500 grit will do. If the rubber gaskets are OK, you are all set to go.
2nd: Sand the cone where the valve rubber ring sits. And you are done.

If it doesn't have an engine, it's not a sport, it's only a game.

                Petcock woes

The problem is with the tapered rubber valve, not the diaphragm. I was hoping to find some debris in the petcock seat, but it was clean. You can see the imperfections on the rubber valve. I searched everywhere I could think of, other than the local Yamaha stealer, and I hate doing business with them. There is a used coming from ebay, so lets hope it doesn't leak.

.. the spring sacks over time, stretch the spring a little until it's longer, but not to much you still want the vacuum to open the valve. this might help push the plug into the hole tighter= better seal.
.. i also resurface the flat sealing parts the same way that Strom does.

                    October Ride

                    JimBo,
I'm planning on riding some of the Blue Ridge Parkway, starting at the zero mile marker. I only have the week-end of the 13th off so it's not enough time to do the Suches Rally, -- --- regretfully.
I'll leave Friday morning after work and must be back to work Sunday night.
All in all, I also try to avoid the 6-6-6 thing too; unless at the check out line, several items total this -- -- -- I still won't rush back and buy one more item just to change the total.
                    Ride Safe,

                        WooHoo! (I think)

GNEPIG.. many thanks... I think this may have done the trick.
My original petcock, I tried and it still leaked... the replacement leaked when I got it but tried your trick and it seems to be holding.
(this is the point where I go back out and find a puddle of gas under my tank)

Randy, thanks for checking that out... I noticed the numbers on the parts... will they work on an FJ? I didn't see anything at the site for FJ petcock rebuild kits...

                          WildKat;

I looked up the part #'s on YAMMY.com, then plugged them in to Speed and Sport's inventory search. I know, the search comes up for a different model, but that may just be the first model (or last?) that part was used on.

                          BTW, I looked up an '84 FJ1100.

                          Oh, yeah, Happy Birthday, John!
