• Harleywocky or (2 much time on my hands)

(sorry Lewis)

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

"Beware the harleywock, my son!
The exhaust that bite, the payments that catch!
Beware the radar bird, and shun
The frumious vibratingsnatch!"

He took his throttle gas in hand:
Long time the davidson foe he sought --
So rested he by the triple tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The harleywock, with eyes of flame,
Came winding on the tulgey pave,
And rumbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The throttle gas went in the red!
He left it dead, and with its header
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the harleywock?
Come to my arms, my XSish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.

Thanks Prometheus

I come here amongst all these knowledgeable people and I gather so much useful information. The least I can do is post something once in awhile that makes you all think...

Check your spelling, Wildkat

"Huh? What the f*$%?"
I believe that "%" should have been a "#".

My 2 cents

Actually, since "#" is a symbol for "pound," or "number," I think "96" would have been better replaced by the exclamation point: long, upright, ridged... but unfortunately accompanied by only one... er, round thingie.
Neat variation on Ogdens work thought!
E.Liberty
(My wife would argue, by the way about the size vs. speed thing.)
Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
I've been riding since 1959.

Speed vs size

It's really thrust that matters.

Thanks Ed! It's actually a play on Lewis Carroll, although, I suppose, I could do a massacre of Nash's work as well.

The XS

Tell me O XS, I begs
Shall I place my feet upon your pegs?
I marvel at thee XS,
If I were thee I'd call me...

okay, maybe not.

In case you missed my original tribute to the gurus though (since we have this masterwork literary thread going here), here it is:

Married to an XS Guru

I’m married to an XS Guru
He’s found another wife
This one doesn’t nag or gripe
And brings joy into his life

She takes him many places
Of which I could only dream
And when his mistress is full of gas
He’s happiest it seems.

When they’re out together
We are left alone
They are somewhere riding
While the kids and I are home

He returns all calm and happy
Then sits at the computer
Where he meets with other guys
Other XSive suitors

I still see him now and then
And kiss him on the cheek
Just so he remembers
Who cleans his clothes each week.

"If I may stray for a moment"

It's really thrust that matters.
A little off topic, but....
The new owners of the shop had T-shirts made up. On the front it says, "MOTO INTERNATIONAL: CYCLE MART". (T shirt is black, so I don't mind, but doesn't have a pocket for my smokes) Anyway, On the back says, "IN THRUST WE TRUST".
I don't know if I should be embarrassed, or what? Maybe, if instead of my name, I could have embroidered, "The Throbber, I might wear it. (I mean, that's sort of engine related, too)
I now return you to Wildkat's post.

A little more XSive

Godzilla and the King of Kong are monsters by their name,
The Dresser, Bentley, and Babe the Blue are seemingly rather tame,
But only those who ride XSs really know their power,
The Good the Bad and Ugly they are true bikes of the hour

Black Widow and the Widowmaker oh the tale that their names tell
Just ask those XSives who have within the past months fell
Frankenzilla and the Beast are ominous in their sound,
Through some Misery and Suffering, they are the toughest bikes around

SwampThing and Megathrust are a Flashback to the day
When a Daily Ride turned to Midnight with Twilite along the way
Half-breed, Mongrel, Rusty are just to name a few
Rhona, Teacher and Foster Child they’re important too

They say that into every life a little Reign must fall,
But not when it is Purple, for it’s XSive afterall.
So when you’re riding down the road sit tall in your seat
And remember you’re XSive and that just can’t be beat.
