  • just turned 39000

Got to thinking this morning about age. MIYAMI is 27 years old. I think it's more fitting to say she just turned 39000.
Hopefully, before she turnes 28, I can get er to 40000. That's the magic number for when she gets parked and stripped down for a simple, indepth, inside and out, winter-long clean up, including bearings, caps, bolts, valves, carbs, and so on. now that I've bored you all with the wisdom of " not quite guru " Gonna put a couple of mile on this weekend and see if I can get her close.

I lived in San Anton' for over four years in the Air Force. If I had had a bike there, I would have probably rode it til the wheels fell off. I missed the four seasons while I was there and now that I ride I still enjoy them. If for no other reason than you mentioned Dragon. It gives you nothing but time to look longingly at your bike and do the crappy work and maintanance that they need. It is really hard to do that stuff when you could be riding.

Not too many mile were put on. I guess the work on MIYAMI starts this week. Battery took a dump and have to use the kick starter amost every time she's shut down. Don't want her to get to the point that the kick starter won't work. Also found a little bit of corrosion on the swing arm below the battery. looks like the battery has been oooozzzzzing out of the breather tube, As far as I'm concerned, she's broken and needs to be fixed. My vehicles don't leak anything. They wern't designed to, so it's broke.
Winter is a good time to ride. No bugs, less traffic, most of the non driving yahoo's have crashed there cages cuz of ice, A little cold but with proper gear, not bad. I'll let evryone know the progress in the disection of MIYAMI and the stuff I find wrong. Sometimes it's amazing what you find wrong knowing that you've hit 100+ many times. Then you thank yourself for shuttin her down and doing what your doing.

            Battery ooze?

            Hey Steve,

Before you start tearing into Miyami, you might want to check the charging system? The "Ooze", might be overcharge overboil?? That way you can determine whether you need to replace the Reg/Rect before it's torn down?

Good idea... Thanks for the tip. I'll test the charging system before going futher into the job. I know the battery is about 5 years old and the plates don't look very hot. I've refilled it a few times with distilled water. It has slowly dwindled down to only accepting about a 50% charge. The main thing I'm worried about is the acid leaked onto the swing arm and ate down to the metal. I've gotta get that stuff off of there and shoot some paint. Figured while I'm doing that, might as well do the bearings to. You know how it goes. One thing alsway leads to another.

AS long as you got the baking soda. While you are at it, you might replace the battery breather hose. Had to replace mine because it kept cracking. Even if the battery is putting out acid, you shouldn't ave any dripping down the frame. Generally it splits right at the breather nipple
