  • Like a breath of fresh air....

Finally got my filters from APE Racing Products. I installed them and took the bike for a little jaunt... The old filters would choke my engine out at @6500 rpms. I decided to get on it a bit, went through 2nd, went to hit 3rd.. didn't pull the shifter hard enough and went neutral, and watched the tach peg out past 10 grand for a sec... ummmm.. oops! Apparently I got everything bolted down right in the top end! Got it back in 3rd... and got curious. Just stayed on it through 5th. It red-lines fine in other gears, but 5th with a headwind, full fairing, and bags, I could only get 7500-8000 rpms wide open. Oh well.. was plenty fast for me. Here's a pic of the differences in the throat openings of the filters.... makes a HUGE difference on mine.

    Hey Tod, and others,

A quick glance and you can see that "LIP" on the small round ones, and the larger oval ones don't have it! If you had done the extension tube mod I posted about earlier, you wouldn't have had that 6K wall anymore! I do like the look and size of the oval ones, helps fill in the space behind the carbs better than the smaller round ones!

The decision was based mainly on laziness for the oval versus the cone filters....figured more filter area would equal less often to have to clean!

But yeah... after installation, I agree with you. There isn't as big of an empty space with just fuel lines hanging down.
