  • Needed ASAP 79 xs1100 left side cover

    Hello all,

I've got a 79 XS100SF that is missing the left side cover. I've tried Ebay, but just missed out on one by someone that outbid me by a $1. Dang it anyway. I'd like to start riding my bike to work to cut back on fuel costs in my 4x4 pickup.

The bike was given to me last year by a good friend of mine. He said that it'd make someone a good project. I bought a new battery, spark plugs, synthetic oil and oil filter, all new fuel lines, and a new front tire. I'm just waiting for some different carbs to show up-hopefully this week and I can get it running again. If you have one for sale, please let me know ASAP.

    Thanks,
    Doug

May/will cause your clutch to slip.
Use the search feature above to find previous posts and/or read "Articles" at left about oils.

I'm not for sure but I may have one if your still looking. I can't remember what it came off of. I'd have to look again to see. I'll go check to see for sure what I have. And if you want I can post a pic so you can see if it looks like your other one. I was going to sell it on ebay in a week or two with a bunch of other stuff but I'm always willing to deal with people here first. It's been stripped to the plastic front and back and put in primer. The good stuff not the stuff from a spray can. All you need to do is hand sand the primer a little before you paint it. I'll post back in a bit.

P.S. It is without the emblem, but I may have one of those too.

I checked out that side cover. It has the emission control sticker still on it, but it say's for 1980. I don't know if it will work for you or not. I had heard some was interchangable. But I don't know this for sure. There may be someone here that knows. If you want I'll post a pic. Just let me know. I can tell you it has round holes on the top and the locking tap has not been broke or repaired. I know there was the square/rectangle one as well but I don't know what fits what. I'm still learning some history on these bikes myself when it comes to what may fit here but not there.

The 79 Special mounts with slots on the top. not the round holes. That would be the 80-81 Special.

                  Hey John,
Thank you for the info about my side cover. I didn't know if it was for a standard or special. Now I know. Saved me from having to ask or to do a search on it.

I just have one XS1100 special, but I'd like to have a spare left cover on hand in case I lose one. Let me know.

                        Thanks,

                          Hi there,
just read your need. I have a 79SF left side cover. However, like most the lock tab is shaved off. If you want it, you can have it.

                            standard sidecovers

I do not have any special sidecovers right now. BUT in case anyone needs a pair of 78/79 standard xs1100 sidecovers I now have a pair. PLease read my caution. These have been repaired.Right sidecover had the lower tab broken off. and 2 inch crack at approx 1400 hrs looking straight on. Now in black primer damage has been repaired. Left sidecover has a crack from approx 2300 hrs down to 1800 hrs lookin straight on. Damage has been repaired also now in black primer. I normally throw damaged sidecovers away but since they are becoming hard to find I considered these to be worth saving. Will need some glaze putty and a slight sand and primer before worthy of finish paint. Price will include shipping in continental USA $40.00 for the pair. I will be on the road all week may not check PM mail until friday. andreas
