Some guys from South Africa rigged up an XS11 in 82' and ran it in the South African Formula 1 championship. The other competitors scoffed at it beforehand, and it was treated as a joke. Mods were cams, ported, 1178, smoothbore carbs, stock bottom end. It had a chaindrive and weighed 198 kilograms. Tweaked to the max, they blew it up a few times experimenting on the dyno. Fork brace was an extra tripletree slid on the forks. Anyway, from race debut, the damn thing broke all F1 lap records on every circuit, and won every F1 race it entered! It was winning by margins of 12 - 13 seconds. It was clocked at 264kph at Kyalami track. Before this old dunger XS11 had turned up, it had been an even contest. Anyway, Rod Gray the rider, and the scoffed at XS11 won the championship that year, and the doubters were left eating humble pie!! True story.
