  • Brake rotors

    Hi all,

I'm new to doing the forum thing, but I am looking for the minimum thickness for the rotors on my '82 XJ1100. I am planning a complete brake job on it and want to know if my rotors can be turned or not. She has over 60K miles on her and the previous owner had the brakes done a few times. Can anyone help me out?

DO NOT turn the rotors. They are surface hardened, and will wear QUICKLY if turned. The minimum thickness is cast into the rotor, so you can go by that. If you need new rotors, Yamaha will tell you they are not available, or charge you an arm and a leg for each one.
You can replace the rotors with the XS650 rotors, as they are the same rotor used on the XS11.
If you do a "search", with the link on the left side of the page, you will find all the information you need about the rotors.

Just make sure you get some from the XS650 Specials (298mm dia). The rotors of the standard XS650 (267mm dia) are smaller.
XS1100 and XS650- what do you need more?
