Well, I'm bailing out of the rally. Both of my riding buddies have dropped out, and a slew of family weekend offers have flowed in, so I'm bowing to the fates and skipping Tahoe. Yeah, I suck, but what the hell...too many "Why can't we spend the weekend at the lake?" "Well, dad has a motorcycle rally in Tahoe and I can't do the boat by myself" events, so I'm caving in....

        LoHo,
Have SWMBO tow the boat to LAke Tahoe, and you ride up. After the help with the launch, the join the ride, and get back in time to help with pulling out of the water. You get to ride, the kids get a boat ride, and everyone is happy.

            Gettin Close!

Bummer Loho. If you can't make it Ray and I may have to ride over some weekend or: we still haven't ridden over Mt. Hamilton!
We need to decide where and when we can meet in Lodi Saturday to ride up. Meeting at Carrow's 9:00 AM Sunday Morning seems to be well set. ( That's on Hwy 50 South Lake Tahoe near State Line. Can't be too many of them. Correct me if I'm wrong.)
Knewsom- are you following this thread? Haven't heard from you in a while, and we are meeting in Lodi for your benefit!
            Ride on!!!

Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
            I've been riding since 1959.

I know...let's award a prize to the guy that rides the farthest to the rally!

BTW in leaving in about 30 minutes headed that direction. CYA fellas.

                Ed, Ray, Knewsom... (Pat)

Lodi is my hometown, so I made up a map of the intersection of Hwy 12 and I-5: http://www.unclespot.com/LodiStop.jpg
to meet up for this Saturday morning(for the Bay Area/central valley/Sac XSers:

#4 is Rocky's Restaurant (maybe the best there for food)

#10 is Country Market (in the Flying J truck stop) (maybe the easiest to meet up at)

                #1 is Wendy's, #2 is McDonald's, #6 is Carl's Jr., #8 is Burger King

the best prices on gas are at the ARCO (#9)

...unfortunately I won't be able to attend the S.Lake Tahoe rally:
my mother-in-law passed away Monday - so that means all the services, wake, and memorial is THIS weekend. ...this is family, and my mother-in-law was very special to us. She went into the hospital just last Thursday and was diagnosed with cancer of the lungs, stomache, kidney, and pancreas - it was a shock to everyone...

Pat Kelly got a room reservation up in S. Lake Tahoe so if anyone else is still without a room you can split it with Pat. ...Pat, if that doesn't pan out I will still pay for 1/2 of the room. I'll call your cell phone this morning (Wednesday).

I'll be there in spirit with you guys...

I don't have my cell phone with me.
You take care of business on your end. Prayers and condolences for you loss.

                    Pat, and all.
Let's meet at the Flying J, as I stop there for fuel when I drive the beast, and know how to find it.
I'll be leaving Saturday morning, and should be there about 10:00am.
Maximan, I think you won that award last year, so you can't get it again this year.
                    Ron,
I'm sorry to hear about your mother in law. As I've lost a few friends to cancer, I pray it was easy for her, as I know it can be bad. We will think of you and your family this weekend.

If anyone does want to split the room let me know. Otherwise I'll call and swap to a single room. It's $89 + 10%tax per night for what I reserved.
I'll change my reservation if I don't hear by this evening.

Pat, what time are you taking off to meet the guys in Lodi? Are you staying to eat there? I might be able to postpone family crap long enough to shoot up 99 to Lodi and back...and 99 is soooo scenic!

MAXIMAN, most of our riding together would probably be my watching your custom taillight vanish over the horizon. Pat is trying to figure out how to trailer his 10-speed so that he can race my XS in the mountains...I nearly dropped my bike last week when a school bus honked as it passed me...those kids are rude, too. I don't even know those brats and they're calling me "grandpa"! Does this helmet make me look old? Be honest...

                            LOHO,
If you want to do that I could go with you for a couple of hours...
my shop is 1 mile off Hwy 99, and the 12/5 intersection is ~40 miles north... I could ride up with you, meet everybody and get back to Modesto before my wife noticed I was gone... she'll be sedated most of Saturday anyway...

Yeah, Ron, my thinking, too. I can probably be there and back before my kids roll out of bed. Having breakfast with the Tahoe guys would alleviate some of the puss-factor of bailing on the rally. What time do we need to meet in Modesto/Turlock to make a 10am breakfast in Lodi? Modesto would be about right for a pit stop anyway...

9am would get us there safely by 10am

                                99 north to 120
                                120 west to I-5
1-5 north thru Stockton and to Lodi (12/5)

                                Friday is services and wake
Saturday is a family gathering in the evening
and Sunday is a memorial and another family gathering
...so Saturday morning is rather open for me (just not for an 8 hour ride thru 'twisties')
