  • 2nd annual Tahoe Rally anyone?

Labor Day isn't really that far away, and it's time to consider if we want to meet in Tahoe this year. Personally, I can't remember when I've had that much fun out of bed! I don't think DragXS11 can host/guide this year, seein' as how I hear he is married and a father now. ('sup Dude, stay in touch!)
Maybe his Dad can join us, but any of us can read a map and we can go exploring together.
This is a test: my first attempt to post a photo using Photobucket. Here's a shot I took last year, I hope.
Old bikers never die, they're just out of sight!

My recently re-built, hopped up '79 Special caught fire and burned everything from the top of the engine up: gas tank, wiring, seat, & melted my windshield all over the front of the bike. Just bought a 1980 Special that has been non oped for 9 years. My Skoot will rise from the ashes and be re named "The Phoenix!"
    I've been riding since 1959.

I'm interested. I'm on vacation the rest of this week (last week too). I'll take another vacation day to go on a ride. I just hate being on the road on holidays.
Road up Del Puerto Canyon today. It was great. I wasn't being straifed by the Squids because they were at the Moto GP races.

I would not be able to make it this year. The upcoming Revelstoke rally is going to be my 1 long trip due to $$ and lack of vacation time.

Tahoe sounds do-able...I might even be able to ride my bike this time! I don't think that we have to have a host; just set up at that KOA for those who are camping and the rest can meet at restaurants. If we have an agenda with destinations printed up for all, getting together shouldn't be any more of a problem than it always seems to be.

            rally

OK, so far we got Pat Kelly, Knewsom and Loho on board. Great! I agree with Loho regarding meeting and accommodations.
Hey Pat, are you the bro that works on Saturday and gets Mondays off? If so, I have a local bro with the same schedule who would love to go for a putt on his day's off. His wife has cancer and he has been house bound for a while: he isn't an XS'er (Has a Honda CB900,) but would really appreciate a break.
Seein' as how the Mt. Hamilton ride got rained out, I think we should consider another attempt. Are you, Pat, or anyone else game?

Almost never can plan a date. Schuedual changes rapidly.
When time is close I'll know (usally 3/4 days in advance).

Tat's why I normally never post on these threads. Could fool myself and show agin like at "tax Relief ride".

Really like riding 89 and 49, and a few roads in between. Just sucks riding 80 getting there.

Yes, Monday and Tuesday are my days off.
Mt Hamilton was nice last Saturday, tho a bit hot (not as hot as home).
Weekends off are tough for me as I'm the supervisor then.

Pat, 'wanna go up Sunday after you get off work, and come back Tuesday? I'd rather do that then go at all - traveling on Labor day or Memorial Day weekend NEVER made sense to me: it seems like EVERYBODY is on the road (ya can't ride as fast as you'd like to), GAS prices are the highest of the year, and you can't get reservations ANYwhere. ...now if you go the weekend AFTER Labor Day EVERYthing is wide open, there aren't hordes of crowds, gas prices have come back down, and there aren't 6x more police/radar traps as there are on a major holiday.
...I think I might've just talked myself into going to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon the week AFTER...

I think Ron has the right idea. If it mostly local yokels, let's pick a non-holiday weekend, although I'll be locked into weekend-only after next week (what? School's back in ALREADY!?)
I could do a Mon-Tues thing with a little warning...take off after school on Monday and get a sub for Tuesday...

                      Tahoe schedule

I was very surprized last year at the lack of cage traffic on Labor Day week-end. Ray and I had the back roads practically to ourselves on the way up, and there were almost more bikes than cages as we toured the passes.
I've got a feeling that with gas prices the way they are, It's going to be a bikers Holliday.

So what day so I can put in a day off request ASAP.
I probably won't camp but will leave early in the day (morning/night) and make one (long) day of it.

Hamjam will be in the state at the end of next week, if we want to have a dinner/drink with the old canuck, eh?

Do tell more about HamJam's visit! Haven't seen him since a year ago Xmas when we moved from Maine to Ca.

My wife and I are looking forward to the Tahoe rally. It's nice 'n' close... only about two hours from home. It'll be nice to meet some of the guys I missed the last time.

                              Tahoe ho!

Last year we used a Carro’s Restaurant in South Lake Tahoe, close to State Line on Hwy 50 as a rallying point. The people were really friendly, and there were a couple of very reasonable motels next door (one was a Best Western, I think,) and a campground was very close by.
JERRY, if you are following this, maybe you can help fill in the details for this old man! I’m sorry you won’t be able to make it.
I am somewhat flexible, being as I am self-employed. I have a juicy contract that I hope to complete and get paid for on the first of September. What would work for me would be:
Ride up Saturday, maybe ride by and meet some one in the Valley to ride up with; spend Saturday night in a motel, meet riders Sunday morning at Carro’s for breakfast, and decide on a daylong putt; spend Sunday night and either go on another ride Monday, or figure on doing a combination group ride and trip home, with a stop over on someone’s lawn or couch in the Valley.
I’d really like to see Pat Kelly make it. I’ve never met you, but I feel for those with your schedule.
I was surprised that the rooms weren’t booked up. I’m not sure about the campgrounds: you might want to reserve if that is your want.
With gas prices the way they are I have a feeling we won’t have a problem, and that our tourist dollars will be very welcome.
                              Write (and ride) on!
