  • Ride home from Wisconsin

Well I am 4 days from my trip to get my 80 xs 1100 from my brothers garage and thanks to this site, armed with quite a bit of info.for preping her for the ride to Staten Island. I have tune up info and tire dating and even tank range. I should have picked up a climber repair manual and wanted to get that fork brace before leaving....But time flies ,and I would never be as ready as I would like.If anyone has any good roads to ride I have a few extra days to meander around and what basic tools to bring besides my visa and Tom Tom Well I am off and running got to finish up work and project I started here at the house Thanks again

    roads to ride

If you're starting out in northern WI (or just want some great riding for an extra couple days), come through the UP. (UP = Michigan's upper peninsula) Go up to Copper Harbor in the Keweenaw Peninsula. M-26 and US-41 between Houghton and Copper Harbor are two of the best (read most fun and prettiest) roads I've ridden. Views of Lake Superior, state forests, hilly twisties and fresh air. Doesn't get much better. If you do decide to do that, PM me, and I'll give you places of interest up there too.

Nonsense. If you are Northner WI, wyou want to come down the Great River Raod, and the Mississippi valley. Best area in the Midwest. I can spend days in SE Wi with a smile on my face the whole time.

      Oh, wait. I have.

Seriously, from where and to where, since that is the important info for route planning.
I've been in more than one Hemisphere, and I wrote a book to help you do it too (or just prepare better for that week long road trip). Going Small, not just for the little guys.

I recently flew into a small airport in Tn. and jumped on one I had never seen and rode it 900 miles home. Several times along the route I would bust out laughing thinking what kind of friggin nut am I for doing this. Lots of fun. Several of the folks on this site pmd me phone numbers after posting my route. I'd suggest you do the same; it's nice to know you can reach out to folks familiar with the bike if you have problems. Have a safe trip and remember to rport in when you get home.

            I'm in Milwaukee

Starting off here? thats cool. Not a lot of good riding over in this part off the state, but there is some.

If you need anything while you are here, drop me a PM

I Live in Rockford, IL. About 10 miles south of the IL-WIS stateline on I-90. Let me know if I can help in any way. Right now is constuction season, the state (IL) is changing their toll both set ups so expect some delays in high traffic times.

Made it to my bro's house took a look and a ride then ordered the manual. She ain't bad got a few oil leaks and there is an annoying smell of gas ,,,slightly disconcerting before starting a long ride unfortunatly the gas leak isn't close enough to the oil thimg to clean it off , Trying to set Tom Tom up the dash ,,,planning on scenic route along lake erie rt 6 amd if the gps holds up I'll just take different roads in the easterly direction But it is good to have another xs back in my life, Well Ill take some pics and hoist a few along the way back home. Already hit the tech tips and will go out in the am and hit that tensioner leak. Thanks again for all the info' Probobly won't leave wisconsin til monday then 5 to 6 days wandering
