  • is 2 part epoxy stronger than superglue?

my car mirror falls off and i have had bad luck with superglue and the stuff they disguises as mirror glue, i think it's superglue...

collectively i don't know of anyone that knows more than this machine of a forum as far as personal transportation issues...

hence the questions, any comments appreiciated!

should i use 2 part epoxy is it a stronger bond?

    mason,
I've had pretty good luck with the glue made for the mirrors. You do NEED to CLEAN EVERYTHING before trying to re-glue the base oback on to the window. I use one of my "swab pads", or acetone to clean the glass. You also need to scrape ALL the old glue off the mirror mount.
I usually put a bit of blue tape on the outside of the windshield to help locate the mirror. The glue jobs normally last about three years or longer.

There is a glue that looks like super glue but is stronger. It's used to attach rearview mirrors to windshields. You can get it at most auto parts stores. It's sort of a 2 part glue, you have to use a special cleaner swab that comes with it before you glue the mirror back on.

I used 5 min. 2-part epoxy about 8 years ago, and the mirror is still on the windshield. Crazy glue is next to useless in my opinion. And I've never used the glue sold especially for rear view mirrors so can't say yay or nay on it.

I've also found if you buy the little kit...it has the glue, the cleaner, AND a new button for the windshield...that makes all the difference. The old buttons never seem to hold, even with the correct glue.

Just a few bucks at any autoparts store...

i see said the blind spot man

              okay,

i guess i'm not alone, yes i have tried that windsheid stuff to no avail, and i clean and clean, it's not so much the bucks but the preparations and waiting to see it it'll hold, to me it does not... in the past, anyhow.

wierd that old buttons don't work... wonder what's going on at that level...

i would have used the original button but can't find it for the life of me...

bought a new button and it's on with my nos 20min 2 part epoxy..
              hope it holds...

              thanks guys

Super glue will eat a hole in your windshield. Don't ask how I know. Use windshield mirror glue.

never did it to me, how big was the hole, or was it a chevy windshield?

You could skip all this do-it-yourself stuff. I was like the majority here. Couldn't ever get it to stick very well. Most windshield/ auto glass shops will stick one back on for you for 5-10 bucks.... and guarantee it for life.
When I tried to do it myself... seemed to work OK in the summer, but on a cold morning, when you go to adjust the mirror after kid or wife been driving, you sit and shake your head as you stare at it in your hand after it came off again.
