  • Naming my baby

    I know that naming your machine should be personal, but I still haven't been able to come up with one that really fits. Most of you have seen pics of the nearly all black beast, if not, here's one. The thing is I can't seem to come up with a name that fits that I like. Roketto just doesn't seem to fit. It is japanese for Rocket (obviously), but while these bikes are quick as hell, it is more like a tank than a rocket (just sound like crotch-rocket). I am thinking about Spawn. SWMBO wants me to name it The Yamica, because she has made me be so cheap about the whole thing (no offense intended). I said no, not cool enough for my bike I have seen some really great names on here and it makes me want a really good one, too.

    .. looks to me like you have already named it. whats wrong with
    "My Baby"?. it's a true statement of how you feel about your bike, and it's what you call it all of the time anyway. it doesnt have to be some big macho manly name. just think of it as the other woman

      Like a Rock!?

      Hey Jessie,

      You're a Geology Major, that rocks!

      You're bike is in a type of transition, as you work on it and get it into shape. So...you might say it's "Metamorphic" ?

      Black rock? = Coal, Lava,

      Oh, oh, I know!
      Obsidian:A black or dark-colored volcanic glass

      perhaps combined with ERUPTION!?

      Go with what you know, and what is part of your lifestyle. You know rocks, minerals, etc., I'm sure there's some interesting terminology that you can find that would fit your beast!

      Just some ideas to get you thinking. I also found an English to Japanese Romaji Dictionary. Here are the results for :

      My=waga, mai
      Black=kuroi, burakku, kuromeru, kuro
      Baby=osanago, akachan, chinomigo, youji, akanbou

      A japanese warrior dressed in black is a NINJA, but that's already taken!

        I find the name of mine (Godzilla) changes with the level of repair or aggravation it causes .

        Godzilla=extinct but still feared

          My bike became the Mongrel because it is. It's have standard and half special... Mongrel.

          If there is anything unusual about your bike, consider that in the name.

          I don't usually name my machines, but once in a while one just cries out for it.

                Last bike I bought was ordered from Yamaha,when they called me to say it was in I quickly went down to dealer to pick up. About week later my wife was talking to an aunt of mine. Wife mentioned I had picked up a new bike on such and such day. My aunt said to her : Oh that was andreas's grandfather's birthday." Long since deceased but he was a true biker and always had great stories about his ridin days. Bike was named "grandpa" ....

                    Tons of that stuff around here TC. I live hard by a volcano. One of my favorite roads is Bottle Rock Road which gets its name from the copious amounts of (you guessed it) volcanic glass found along its route in great big boulders. Ducati Tim refers to it as "Bottle Rocket Road".

                      Names will come to you. As stated before, What do you call her all the time? The little kawi 305 that I've got was unnamed for along time untill I started working on it. Then the name Lil' pig kinda stuck. That bike is being sold today to my brother. We'll see if the name stays. My XS was named MIYAMI because that is what I called her when I first got her, AND that is just what she is My Yami. Good luck and be patient. The right name will come in time.

                        Reading this thread I thought that I had no name for my XS but I guess in reality I did all along. For years I would tell my better half (she makes me call her that) that I am going to take a ride on YoMama.

                        Neither one of them have slapped me in the face yet!

                          SWMBO named mine.... "Sancha" which is a "generic name" for "The Other Woman" .... It fits ..... I spend as much or even more of my awake hours with Sancha than I do SWMBO.... and usually smiling when I get home from a ride or back in from the working on her.
