  • then reality kicks in...

So I was looking through a bike mag the other day and was looking at the Guzzi Griso...Love the look, love the transverse mounted V-twin (I miss my old cx500)...and I read that it has a top speed of only about 125mph and I think that's way to slow...then it dawns on me. I've rarely if ever hit the ton...I don't feel to comfortable at that speed here in CO (land of gravel at every corner, curve, and stop light)...why would I even care about that top end?

Anyone else catch themselves thinking like that?

I agree. As I get older the right wrist seems to get a little weaker and the right side fingers get a little stronger. It's when you start to relize that it takes longer to heal at 5o than at 20. Oh well!!!

      Yep

the more time it takes me to heal the more I prefer a comfy cruise with the occasional spirited jaunt on a rode I know well. Must be becoming a father...yeah, that's it that's the ticket....

the whole fatherhood thing has definately changed my view of the road and the idiots I have to share it with. As far as that gravel is concerned, what's it matter. At that speed your not really touching the ground anyway

hehehe...yeah...flying...Anyone familiar with I25 between Denver and Colorado springs? Just south of the rest stop there are some bumps in the road where different sections meet and right in the apex of some curves. They just keep paving over it instead of grinding it down. At 75+ you are airborne and leaned over...I say a prayer every time I go over it when/after its been raining...

I prefer to take highway 83 but sometimes speed is of the essence...

Hmmm... I like griso... But I like V10 Centauro even better... the one with the small headlight fairing. Best lines I've seen on a bike. But then again, don't get me started on old big block guzzis...

I could dig a Griso. I am fond of Guzzis though I've never owned one. Have ridden a few and I love the sound of a 90ยบ V twin.

About top speed, 125 is plenty. At 64 don't think I'd heal too quickly though I'm much more in fear of going to jail and losing my license than crashing. I've hit 110 once and 105 several times on the XS11 but usually limit my XSes to the 90 mph range.

                  I know what you mean...

I liked the sound of my Honda cx500...I also love the sound of a triple...

So many bikes, so little money...

The griso for me would be the the compromise...the 90 degree v-twin, the muscular look of a vmax...

Got an FJ1100 recently, turned the wick up for a test, went to local repair shop and ordered smaller front sprocket, 130 mph with 1500 rpm left to go is more then I am interested in.

Its not the speed that bothers me, I love going as fast as the bike can go, its that sudden stop that you really have to worry about. Even if you hit a car, the flight is as safe as can be, its that landing that you just cant perfect.

I can honestly say that I haven't exceeded the 100 mph mark in at least 4 days... (and that was pretty darn scarey...) I was trying to keep up with a bunch of guys on Kawasaki Vulcans, mostly 1600's and 2000's but there was a couple of "smaller bikes", they were only 1500 cc's .... But my XS did everything they could.... cornered better (without dragging my pegs), and accelerated better. Though in the future.... I believe I'll keep it 70 and below, more my comfort zone.
Just couldn't let them think a New Kawaskai was better than a 28 year old Yamaha XS11E....

Twenty and some odd years ago I would never let a sunny riding day go by without breaking 100 MPH. Now a days, I don't think I ever ride that fast.

I do enjoy blowing away Harleys and other cruisers and stoplight to stoplight drags....
