  • Pics of my XS1100G

Did a compression test today, all between 140 and 145

But man, what a cockup when I went for a ride, lost the left hand side cover It's somewhere along 60km of busy road, done two drives of it, can't see it. I need to do it again at 30kmh

You can think of a lightning bolt as essentially a really really big bug zapper. Unfortunatey, we're the bugs.

    Drooling here.

Did you get those exhausts in k1w1 land?

That's a nice looking bike mate, gives me something to aspire to.

Have you restored it or is that original?

    Either way, you've done well.

Hope it goes as well as it looks.

Have you found the side cover?

    Dan.

      Cheers Drooler

Everything as far as I know is stock, except the PO put a set of carbs on from an S (I also have the S engine as a spare, apparently it's a good runner too). All I had to do was overhaul the front M/C and calipers and glue the starter button together and she's a runner. Runs rich though, I'll overhaul the original carbs and swap them in and dig out my colourtune. It goes well enough as it is, can't wait to see what a tune up will do I'm trying to track down a carb stick, might have to make up something from a bunch of vacuum guages.

No, haven't found the cover, got dark halfway through the second look. Really hope it turns up as everything else on it is in real good order, even mint. I so wanted to punch meself in the head for not putting it on right, but the sun was shining, so was in a bit too much of a hurry to get going Spent this morning changing oil, etc.

Don't have much work this week, so I'll spend a day just cruising up and down the 60km of road having a good poke around.

      David

(No polishing job 4 you this year either I expect )

        Nice

I've got the same year and color. Good looking scoot. Mine lacks the grab rail and plastic behind the seat tho.

Also I'm missing the front fender ornament
Must be a "down under" accessory

Hey JIC, thats a clean one alright, must of had careful owners. Jeez, I was starting to think I had the only XS11 in NZ! Haven't spotted another on the road for years. Mine's a hotted bitser with an 80' engine and 78' carbs, not really in the 'original' class as yours is. Mine even has a chain drive believe it or not. Bad luck about the sidecover. Seems unusual why it fell off. I think a Rotorua wrecker has some spare XS11 parts, also a wrecker in Taranaki. Good luck.

Hmmmmm.... "No honey, I swear I lost the sidecover. I'm not just out riding every day for the fun of it!"

Good Luck finding it. I'm hoping it had a soft landing in the grass... no scratches. When you do find it, hide it somewhere and tell SWMBO that you still are looking for it! lol.

This is a very nice example of an original classic 1.1 so don't go changing it.Hope you locate that side cover,if not there are some Standard's available from time to time.Yamaha must have made a zillion of these thing's as they are litterally all over the world.Enjoy the ride.Dan

                  Hi all

Thanks for all your feedback, much appreciated. Yeah I was fortunate the PO's took such good care (I'm #6!!) I bought her within 10 minutes of first look

I plan on keeping her stock, or if I do fiddle , it'll be a bolt on thing, so it can be swapped back.

Thanks pggg about the info on local wreckers. Since Xmas when I got my bike, I've been watching out for other XS's, not seen one Where are you based?

And thanks too, andreashweiss . I do have the L/H grab rail, it's in the way to lift the seat, so I've taken it off for the moment, until I figure out how it's been tweaked. If I can't find a local side cover, I'll contact you.

Also I'm missing the front fender ornament Must be a "down under" accessory
Must be But ferrous rivets were used Rust One of the PO's had a sidecar on her, he probably added the ornament

If you look infront of the L/H horn, you'll see a lug welded to the frame for the sidecar. Apparently Santa used to get a ride with him during the Biker's Xmas Parade

Wish me luck, later this morning I'm off doing a 30kmh crawl looking for my side cover
