  • Owner's Manual

Does anyone know where I can get an owner's manual for a 81 special ? I thought I had seen it posted here once but now can't find it.

I have a very clean original 1978 XS11 owners manual but I don't have a scanner. I'd bet if we asked around, all the original manuals could be found. It would be nice to scan them and have all of them up somewhere on the site.

I also have a 1979 supplementary service manual. I've been trying to find a factory repair manual but none have come my way so far (on paper that is...)

        Helmet Lock

The reason I wanted to look at this was I seem to remember that my 80 special had a helmet lock on the left hand side and my 81 does not have one. Wasn’t sure and thought I may have been confusing it with the 78 SX650 I had before the 80 1100. Lots of years in between all this According to the owner’s manual there is suppose to be one. Ok off to the parts books. Thanks again TC

My 80G has a helmet lock right in front of the left shock mount.

            Shock Mount

Yep that's where the parts book says mine is suppose to be. Moveing the daughter from collage this weekend so I'll have to check it out when I get home. Can these be re-keyed if I end up in the salavage yard?

Yes they can be re-keyed. Also you can take the cylinder from your old one (if you have it) and put it in the new part.

What I'd like to see done is to get a list of who is willing to loan what to the scan project. Rockkoc's CD is a good start but he's not updating it.

I'll send what I have to you later this week.

                    '79 Special OM

If anyone's looking for a '79 Special Owner's Manual, I have one I can scan for you.
