      Hey Potter,

What route are you going to take? I'll be in Richmond, Va., trying my luck on the 1/4 mile. We have trailer capability here!

Once you post your route, perhaps folks along that route can PM you with contact info for emergency help!?

I'll be taking whatever route I get off mapquest from Jackson TN. to zip 20650 unless someone has suggestions. Won't be much time for sightseeing but I'll be looking for a couple BBQ joints on the way.

Looks like 40 to 81 to 64 to 95 to 301. All highways. I just got off the phone with my mom; she is worried about me taking a long trip by myself on a strange bike and was glad to hear there are XSrs out there looking out for me. (I'm 48)

I am in the roanoke area, a little north of it. Can send you a number if you let me know how.
Check your map and after coming thru Bristol US 11 will parallel 81 most of the way to 64. Mostly 4 lane and light traffic. You can get off 64 below charlottesvill and go out thru Orange And Fredricksburg, good roads and not the 95 hassel.
Also 11 will get you out of the 81 mess and 64 is usually not bad. We usually go the Fredricksburg way when going to Capt. Eddies at Point Lookout and I wnt that way when stationed at Waldorf in the army years ago.
              Have a good trip.

If I was your mom, I would worry less about the bike and be more wary of the motley bunch covering your 6. Have a safe trip.

He got here a few minutes early, did a quick once over then followed my wife and I to a high class local BBQ place and bought us lunch. He's a great person in person as well as on the net!

After lunch he was off heading east on I-40. We've had fantastic weather for the past several days but he brought some rain with him so he needed to get rolling.

About 3 pm I got a call from him about a bit of a mishap in the Nashville area.

Non accident related, non mechanical related but an unusual mishap.

I did a quick search here on the site and called him back with a couple of answers that he hopefully didn't have to use! At a bit after 4 pm he called again and said he was back on the road!!

What a way to start a trip!!

I made it home. OK; about 875 total miles. The mishap Don posted happened on 40 in Nashville. The %$%^^&^*& key flew out of the ignition and went sailing down the road.
I had stopped at a Yamaha shop to get a face shield but the did not have one and sent me back down the road to a Honda dealer. I wa zipping along and felt something hit me in the chest, went What the he!! was that and kept on rolling. Stopped at the Honda dealer, reached for the key and figured out what I had felt hit me. Did I mention I was on reserve? So, back to the Yamaha dealer but they don't cut keys. We were trying to get the gas cap open, (I figured I would just pull the main fuse to shut it off) when one of the guys took a screwdriver and turned the ignition off and it would not turn back on. Now, I'm thinking I am really screwed. The service manager called another Yamaha shop down the road and gave them the number off the iignition and they cut two of them. Problem was, I was stuck at the shop so Ron drove over and picked them up for me. I don't know the name of that shop, but they didn't charge me for the keys and Ron didn't want anything for going to pick them up. Did I mention this was after 4:00 Saturday? I left him a Benjamin and asked him to treat the shop to lunch on me for all the help.
So, If anyone down that was is looking for a shop that goes the EXtra mile, Precision Motorsports in Mt. Juliet Tennassee is one to try.
Other than that and the rain, the trip went well and the bike runs like a top. Thanks for the offers of help and I'm glad I didn't need to call on anyone.
Don said he didn't know if you twisted the throttle and held it, the pointer on the speedo would go around past the MPH on the bottom of the dial.

Glad you made it back to the house ok! The reason for not knowing that the speedometer goes around that far is I never drove it so fast!!
