This stuff has been sitting around for way too many years, it all goes. The illusion is over, I will never get the stuff back together, and the dream xs1100 will need to ride out of someone else’s garage.
I have lots and lots of stuff. I tried to use the old xs engine in a mini sprint. Unfortunately the person behind the wheel didn’t know much about reading gauges or lights or EGTs and after 3 failed attempts the project was abandoned. Like I said, I would like to get rid of everything.
The list goes something like this:
1. Bike one, started life as a 1978 xs1100. Has a newer engine with some 35000 (pretty hard) miles. The thing has set around for all of 15 years. It needs lots, the carbs are off, the brakes stick and the tank is rusty (nothing bad but it’s still rusty. The tires are junk and the tank has a dent. The bike has been painted and has a round headlight. There’s a Barnett clutch in the engine and Lockhart oil cooler. It has a Kerker header that’s been blasted and painted several times and could use it again.
Now you’re thinking, what kind of junk is this guy selling?
Please just read on.
2. Bike two; this one is a 1100 Maxim. It is ugly; I think the clutch was shot among other things. It is how it arrived; I have never done anything with this bike except put air in the tires and move it out of the way on occasion. It does have a Vetter faring and a freshly covered seat for what its worth.
Still junk, well maybe but there’s more
3. There’s a frame, don’t know what year (never really cared). It has leading axle forks, the driveline is there, it has a 16’’ rear and both wheels have the spoke like the 78 had.
What the H#$L is this guy trying to sell?
There’s more, so now we start with some of the stuff that might tickle one of the aficionado’s fancy
4. There’s a complete long block with one bad cylinder. This engine does however have the chain drive set up still on it. It is just the side cover and the spline shaft that was used in the racecar. It used Kaw sprockets and had an outside support, neither of which are anywhere to be found.
O.K., big deal, a chain drive set up on a broke engine that was used in some kind of racecar, what else could there be?
5. Lets see, the top end. There is a professionally ported cylinder head that was never completed. Oh the port work is done but the head needed a valve job and a real good cleaning. This head was kept greased in the right places in a plastic bag (I’m telling you, for many years). This head is also clearanced for aftermarket cams (cover too). There is a set of cams that have never been run (not since I owned them anyhow) they were purchased from Specialist II in like 1983-84. They have a lift of some .416’’. The intake has approximately 335 of duration and the exhaust 315. The paperwork for these cams is long gone so these aren’t for someone who has never timed cams and doesn’t at least have a basic understanding of their function. I think there’s a set of slotted gears in the engine with the chain drive. There is a full set of brand new aftermarket springs that came with the cams.
All right, you have to admit, this stuff caught you a little off guard.
6. Intake. There’s a set of 33mm smoothbores. I had them on my street bike (the afore mentioned 78) so they are used. They could use some TLC but are all there. There is also the throttle set up that I used. It came from a Kaw with the push pull cable set up, it’s still on the bike, and no one could ever tell it wasn’t original equipment.
Yah, Yah, so there’s a set of 33s there too, is there anything else?
7. There is a fresh bottom end. The rods were weighed and balanced and the crank was checked (was too close to screw with). There is a brand new Tsubaki (?) cam chain installed. The transmission was gone through and all of the pertinent second gear parts replaced with new. The tranny was not updated as it was assembled in the 80s and I knew nothing of any fix back then. This is oiled and in a bag.
Just a little more, the rest is all pretty run of the mill.
8. I have a Mac header (pretty good shape considering it’s age, its gray in color) and head light bezels and blinkers and brakes and an extra set of rods and pistons. There are 3, Specialist II, 12.5:1, 1216 pistons. There is a brand new seat and tail for the 78. There are cables and boxes of hardware. It all goes.
I don’t believe $1600 too much to ask for the whole works.
I live in east central Wisconsin, that’s where the parts will need to be picked up.
Make me an offer that tickles my fancy and you’ll be leaving with a load of parts and pieces. Insult me and the unique stuff goes on the shelf as conversation pieces and the rest goes to the highest bidder or whatever.
