    Help with shims ect

    I need to sort out shims ect, any idea what gaps what order ect.

    Welcome, Crazy Pete.

    I assume you're attempting a valve adjustment? I hope you have a maintenance manual? If not, do a search here for valve adjustment and you'll find the procedure.

    Also, here is a link to an excel spreadsheet to help you figure out which shims you'll need after you do your measurements;

        Pete,

        IF that is the engine # then you have a 1978 model. The 2H9 is the european model of the 2H7. You can look up your serial # on the left under the heading "specifications".

        That being said, the starting clearances for the 78 model are:

        Intake: .16mm - .20mm

        Exhaust: .21mm - .25mm

          .. and for those of us who dont own a set of metric feeler gauges

          intake: .006 - .008

          exhaust: .008 - .010

          ..i've been meaning to get a set of metric gauges, they might be more acurate
          i have not tried the calculate/formula way to adjust valves yet, it seems easer to just stick the next size shim in and remeasure until you get it right.. but hey, that other way might be fun to

              So where do I get these shims?
              i get mine from my local japanese motorcycle shop or
              order a set from a shop that has an account with K&L Supply, they seem to have shims for everything.. i have used the K&L shims and they work fine
