Yamaha made a 3 cylinder 750 starting in 1976 then punched it out to 850. Later on they introduced the 4 cylinder 750 Seca and Maxim that were 2 trim levels of the same bike.
I don't recall if Yamaha made a 4 cylinder 700 through the terrif years. I remember working on many 700 veragos but no 4 cylinder 700s (it could be brain fade after all these years.)
I haven't bought any cams in a long time but $390 doesn't sound like a good deal. WebCam used to have a good reputation but who knows now...
Thanks Marty! That is the kind of stuff i'm always interested in!! If you or anybody ever finds this sort of stuff Please post it, I LOVE it. By the way Geezer is corect for sure on his facts. I used to ride a 750 seca and I have both a 750 and 850 triple parts bikes. Also I believe yamaha made a 700 tarriff machine, Maxim maybe? not sure, but somebody here should know.
It must be brain fade. Even after seeing that bike I don't remember it at all. I do remeber the Phaser 700 that was a debored FZ750 with out the sport bike trim.
It's posible that none of those XJ700s were sold in Astoria but it's more likely that it just wasn't a memorable bike (for me anyway.) I do remember the one test ride I got on a 650 Turbo. ;o)
Someone on list has a 700. According to the Yamaha Motors website, The XJ700N appeared in 1985 and came with a regular 2 valve per cylinder setup, the XJ700XN had 5 valves per cylinder. Both were called Maxim. There was a California version with an added 'C' to the model number.
In 1986 it was the XJ700S and the 5 valve XJ700XS.
Buddy of mine has the XJ700N, it is very stylish and fast.
In case anyone is interested...

This IS my happy face.
I had to go to the Yamaha site to look it up but its the FZX700S FAZER. So I spelled it like the snowbuggies of the almost same name but it was an impressive bike just the same.
I vaguely remember a 5 valve Maxim but I was working on Kawies for a living by then and I've never touched one.
I had a 85 XJ700XN. It was actually a Maxim X. NIce bike, it turned me into a shaft lover. IIRC the motor (I think it was called the genisis motor?) was a prototype for another bike.

Geezer;
Did that Turbo have the boost kit? I had a new 83 turbo, and the dealer installed the 12psi boost kit once I had it broken in(about two weeks!)
I could crank the throttle in third gear at 50, count to two, then I'd be doing 90, once the front end came back down! It was a FUN bike on the freeway, just didn't handle on the twisties.
