    Joe "rdmycguy" McCarthy

Joe passed away yesterday. Got word last night, been in touch with his daughter who had posted her loss on Facebook. It's a huge loss for the XS community and his friends everywhere.

He had moved to western Kansas a number of years ago after decades in Colorado, to enjoy the lower elevation and be closer to his daughter.

His personal Facebook has a picture of his bike from 4 days ago out here in Colorado and a picture of a Colorado sunset. It does my heart good to know he had some time in Colorado right before his passing. I don't know if his passing was at home or in Colorado, will share those details when I have more info. Needless to say it was sudden.

Joe was a member of every rally I've hosted out here since 2014, great friend and a better person. And man, could he ride a bike.

Please post up memories here, I will pass them onto his daughter as she has already asked to share as many of those stories as possible. She knows how much he enjoyed riding and enjoyed his friends from this forum, and that means as much to her as it did to him.

Ride safe all. Go take a Victory lap around the block for Joe if you can. "Anything Yamaha is preferred" as Joe would say, but he knew as well as we do that two wheels are better than any other wheels.

Hope all are well and look forward to seeing folks post up here with their memories.

    RIP Joe!

May the Great Joe rest in Peace,,,a true friend, a true person. It was great knowing Joe and his vibrant spirit, always cracking us up at many a Bonz Rally. Joe had the craziest zest for life, it is just sad and he will be missed by many. His Yamaha Riding Bull was a classic, on one ride we were riding through town and a cop pulls up alongside our rally group, took one look at Joe and his Yamaha El Toro and laughed his aassss off,,,he didnt know whether to bust Joe or just laugh,,,of course Joe made the MOoo horn blow with the cop next to him. What a character. Some of us knew his lungs were pretty bad but he hung in there as good as possible. A prayer that our friend and fellow rider is at peace.....love you man,,,,Mike in San Diego and Pa

      Yes, very Sad News .......

I had a long 95 minute conversation with Joe just three weeks ago. He was telling me about plans for his upcoming Colorado ride.
I am sure glad he got back out to Colorado to do some Canyon Carving like only Joe could do. He was a great friend and certainly will be missed by all of us.

Joe's interests / knowledge / skills and IQ were exceptional. Certainly a very interesting person with high energy.

      A good friend indeed

      Jeff

ps. and El Toro sure was a hoot.
One of many memories was Joe at the Canon City Rally riding El Toro WOT around the rough terrain of the dirt of the road to the tent site throwing a 40 foot rooster tail with El Toro sliding all over the place
A highly skilled Dirt Rider too ............

How times have changed, since the new board opened up, not many old guys are around and not many know the likes of Joe or some others. Joe and others are a great part of the tribe. May they guide our rides from above.

The losses our XS11 community have had really hurt. Facebook has really taken over for the "forums". I know many of you are not on FB. Nate Moen and I are the Admins for both Nation/Classic forums.

I spend little time in the Facebook groups. I don’t see a lot of value there, perhaps because I don’t know how to use it. There are far too many posting on FB groups who have no knowledge and post incorrect information or just BS. True, our knowledge base has diminished by the passing of many of our friends, but this is still the place to get good help with an XS1100.

I look at Facebook occasionally but the real problem out there is that it simply does not store information well. Trying to search for something out there is tedious at best. There is also quite a bit of misinformation as Marty pointed out.

FB is marginal at best for things technical. You fellows that moderate over there, send them to .club. They will learn a lot more and avoid the wasted time and misinformation. Joe would approve and agree FB is for posting pictures and "look at me" types that didn't get approval by anything but the internet growing up.

                    I certainly do just that.
