If you do the work with the bike on the side stand, no need to drain the oil. If it's on the center stand, then yes.2H7 (79) owned since '89

I stand corrected, I did use the Vesrah springs, not the Barnett,,,,the pic reminded me of them,,,,anyway,,,tried the extra plate and it was too tight, so used the original steels and plates, cleaned them up, light sanding,,,,,,oiled and put in the Vesrah springs and it was like new. It was 20 years ago doing the clutch redo,,,,the star plate cracking of some members scared me back then so I picked up a few extra just in case,,,never needed them, just take your time tightening the bolts....keep us informed ,,,Mike in S.Diego,and PA.

Right you are, total brain fart on my end. I just remember being glad not to have to go "deeper" when I did the springs, and my "hypothesis" of the clutch plates being just fine based on prior experience with my '78
