  • Xj 1100 idle adjust

Been a while since I’ve been on her needed help. Trying to get the old x-ray on the road again. Everything‘s going pretty well except that it’s idling about 3500 RPM. Even with the manual I have no idea of what to do because it doesn’t really tell me much. I don’t know how to adjust the idle in other words. I need some help. Thank you in advance.

The idle adjustment is between carbs 2 and 3 on the bottom front of the carb bank.

If it's sitting at 3500rpm I'd be inclined to think that either there's something gummed up in the carbs from sitting OR another possibility being that the throttle cable isn't returning all the way back to the idle position. I'd be inclined to remove the cable and lube it up since it's something you'd do in the process of normal maintenance anyhow.

If the lubrication or adjustment screw doesn't solve the problem,
sometimes the throttle cable gets cocked and isn't seated properly in the holder where it attaches to the carb.

I don't know if the XJ has this, but on my XS 1100 SG there is a guide above that the cable rests on. If not in this guide then the cable is at an awkward angle and cant sit right.
