    How make Avatar, me?

OK, that's YodaSpeak. How is an Avatar generated from a conventional .jpg or .bmp? I'll flock-shoot some smilies now, then Smiley Must Die! where's dead Smiley?

You will need some kind of image editing software. What you use is completely up to you. An Avatar can be up to 65 x 65 pixels and up to 20000 bytes in size.

More information about avatars can be found on the FAQ page (scroll up) under "How do I get a picture under my username? "

      there is no try

Dave, have you checked the FAQ?

hint: go to bottom of Edit Options screen...

You can upload from your computer, but the image
must be no larger than 65x65 pixels, and no larger
      than 20kb.

            I'm trying

I had read the FAQ but it doesn't give specifics. OK, I shrunk an image.bmp down to 60x19 pixels, I can copy and paste it into real documents and other image files but it won't paste into the EditProfile signature box. This seems like a .txt thing without the advanced Smiley capability of thisn . Just fooling around. Gotta get me a passport photo like JP and Alfred E. anyway.

Well, it's not going to be a tutorial on using a paint program if that's what you're asking.

But when you go to the FAQ page and click on the How do I get a picture under my username? You'll see just after that -> [edit your options]

Click on that and it'll take you to where you can upload your leetle-beety picture.

OH! BTW, .bmp files are not allowed. You must use gif jpg png or jpeg files

                  Re: I'm trying

For those who want the gory details:

                  From UserCP, select Edit Options;
go to bottom of Edit Options, click Change Avatar.

On the resulting screen, click the Browse button, find and
select your file, then Open on the browse window.
Your file location will now appear next to the browse button.

Then click Submit Modifications, and that will do it
if your file is of permissible size and type,
                  mentioned in previous posts.

                    doh or not doh

I had pulled up some from the cache, saw they were JPEG and tried that too. I believe inserting an image is not just cut/paste on this text board, but requires the square brackets etc. [img]c:\My Documents\downloads\DogSign3a.jpg[/img]
which I try here, excuse me DO here

By the way, still unemployed, still looking, wonder why?

                    [IMG]c:\my documents\downloads\DogSign3a.jpg[/IMG]

Do we need to submit the image to xs11.com? JAT

                      IMG different than avatar

Dave, IMG is for a pic to appear in the message body. To
save server space, it is a link to a graphic on some other
server, like your own web page, or a photo posting site.

Avatar is a different story, that is an allowed direct upload,
but is also not copy & paste. Change your .bmp to a .gif
or a .jpg and try again

                        DOH !

Thank you Mike! The ChangeAvatar button was OffscreenRight on my monitor settings. Hidden in plain sight. I was getting ready to call BR5-49, I might anyway.

Use GIF format if you can...

I just changed my orange helmet avatar today.

It looks the same, but it is now 5kb in size
as a GIF, whereas it was 20kb as a JPG.

                            Picture/Info Insert

How do I insert a picture or additional info into my posts/Name? Like were my name or handle shows on posts or replys. Some people have pictures of bikes/themselves/other. Not very intutitive this Forum. Is there a place that explains all of this in simple English?

                              Hi Russ

You mean like my orange helmet?

Right here in this very How Do I forum is this avatar thread.

If that doesn't do it, let me know.

That will do your 'avatar', the image to the left w/ your name; to insert images into a post body, the image needs to reside somewhere on the web, and you point to it with the IMG tag.
