  • ? How to post a YouTube video on a forum ?

    Test here.............

Trying to figure out how to post a YouTube video with above "wrap codes".

This is the video, using for test > http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wynYMJwEPH8

(I am registered on YouTube, if that does make any difference, to be able to do this.)

A guy on another forum was trying to 'splain to me, and entered the following post, using a different YouTube vid in his explanation/illustration. I couldn't get it to work for me. I decided to complete trying to succeed at this, on this forum; their forum does not have a Forum-How-To location, and I wuz out in front of the whole world, lookin' kinda dumb.

Here is his "how to" post on this >
"To insert a youtube video into a post:

insert the file number of the video between the youtube tags
For example the link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_Y26JNd3g4

then the file number is Y_Y26JNd3g4

so typing the text in the box below
    HTML Code:

    [youtube]Y_Y26JNd3g4[/youtube]

    gives you this "

(I wasn't able to drag the HTML code box, and his successful entry of the vid.)

....ok, here goes; will first try, using the HTML code wrap ~~ have been told that I was to put "youtube tags" on each side of the file number; (?)do I wrap the tags and file number all separate?

Is the "tag" the complete youtube url of the vid?

    HTML Code:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wynYMJwEPH8
    [HTMLwynYMJwEPH8[/HTML]
    HTML Code:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wynYMJwEPH8
Previewed my above try; that ain't it; gotta get it all in the same CODE box (I think).

    Again:
    HTML Code:
    you tubehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wynYMJwEPH8youtube
again; "you tube tag(s)" on each side of file number. dang. whut am I not doing right?
    HTML Code:
    youtube
    wynYMJwEPH8
    HTML Code:
    youtube
    again;
    HTML Code:
    youtubewynYMJwEPH8youtube
.......lost here; will go ahead and submit..............

I got this to work, and video entered, on another forum~~when I entered it in and coded like the 4 vids are coded in above post (#3). Wonder why it won't work on this forum? I'm sure I've got it coded right, now.

          Hey Norton,

I've seen folks embed videos into the posts, and you see a thumbnail that looks like a video image, but it's just a still jpg as a thumbnail in the URL link code....see this thread for example:

          http://www.xs11.com/forum/showthread...ighlight=video

This site does NOT allow HTML code in the posts, just the simple VB codes, so that's why the You Tube EMBED code won't work here. The other forum you visit probably allows HTML code to be used within the posts, and so that's why it worked there!?

You can just post the URL code that YOUTUBE provides vs. the EMBED code, and folks can just click on the link to see it, but they won't get an image THUMBNAIL in the post!

Hey; TC~~thanks for the response. Yes, I had figured out the reason I wasn't able to get the vid image to post, a couple hours after my last post. No problem; and I was able to understand (probably) the reason(s) why you've got it set up this way. This other forum that does allow this, that I've been on for about a year, uses this a lot amongst its members. After about a year, not knowing how to do this, last week, I took it upon myself to figure it out~~to learn how to do it. Strained my brain, finally getting to success. Some of the members gave me some wrong instructions on how to do it, plus I probably mis-unnerstood 'some' of their instructs. Got quite confusing~~but eventually, eventually, did get the codes right. And, at the time, thinking that this forum was probably set up same way, I thot I'd see if it did work the same here~~just to make sure I really had figured it out properly.

One of the plus features on here, that this other forum doesn't have~~and I do very much miss it~~is that were notified via email on here when someone does respond to a thread that we've posted to. Can't really figure out why they don't have it. Thank you, again for checkin' in on the situation...........
