  • Standard side cover?

Well, I lost my left side (battery) cover today. Grrr. I figured it might happen because the po had done a makeshift repair on the cover that was pretty sketchy. I actually tried to zip tie it for insurance but it just didn't work out. So at any rate I'm sure they are as rare as hens teeth but I thought I'd try anyways. If I really pushed my luck it would be blue but I'll take anything or any set and repaint?
Thanks for any help or guidance.

I can hardly believe it but look what I found! It was sitting up nice and pretty about a foot from the side of the road! Just a few scuffs but miraculously no real damage whatsoever. You can’t believe how happy I am. It was about a 60 mile ride that I took yesterday and it could have been anywhere but fortunately it was only about 4 miles from home. Now to come up with a better solution than the PO had done.

You can build up the broken tab with baking soda and super glue then file it to shape. check youtube. It makes a nice strong repair. Glad you found it!

I would get some of this to build the tab up if necessary.

That’s exactly how I felt Mike. I thought if I was lucky enough to find it, it would probably be in at least three pieces. Unbelievable!

Is that a metal tab that was fabricated to repair the side cover? My eyes might be fooling me but it does look like sanded metal. If it is you might want to consider this to completed the repair. Side Cover Repair Kit for all Yamaha XS1100 | eBay

That looks like a great option Cajun. I wish I had seen this earlier because I probably would have done it that way. I came up with another solution that probably doesn’t look as professional but seems to work pretty well. I’ll add some pics in the next day or two.
