No, I machine it one side at a time and when I flip it there is a slight misalignment. It is made from one solid piece.79 XS1100 "Velvet Hammer"

Are you making more of these? Just wondering in case this one sells and I want one later. What all is involved in switching over to chain drive. I guess of course a wheel with cog but is it a lot more involved? I am sure one would notice the power and mpg difference.Jeff

I believe one is restricted on the size of the front sprocket though? There's not much room in there...... Or have I got it wrong?XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. Chain Drive
In order to mount the chain drive you need to remove the stock swing arm and bolt in a swing arm from a suitable donor bike, preferably from a dual shock donor. If it's not a dual shocker then you would have to make and weld on some brackets to the top of the arm to make it a dual shock arm or weld a bracket to the frame to bolt the top of a mono shock to. I should have pictures soon of a 17 x 4.5 inch ZX6E rear wheel modified to bolt on to the XS1100 swing arm with no modification (still shaft driven). The only requirement would be a different rear brake caliper arrangement. Yes the biggest sprocket you can mount on a stock engine is a 13 tooth from an XS650. If you modify the cases like I did you can get a 15 tooth on there. I don't make them to keep around but if somebody ordered one I could have it made from a billet within 2 weeks.79 XS1100 "Velvet Hammer"

Please excuse my ignorance as I am an XS11 newb. But why would I want to change from shaft to chain drive?
What is to gain?
Are replacement parts not available anymore and so change to chain?
Happy Riding!
Thanks,

Main reason is to fit a larger tire on the rear. It will also allow you to adjust drive ratios and it will also get rid of that torque steer from the shaft.'79 XS11 F

Realistically, it's not a mod most people would want to do though, IMO. It's pretty drastic and the stock setup has lasted decades, is reliable and proven in operation. I'd say there is no need whatsoever to do this mod, as far as most of us are concerned, and there is certainly no shortage of parts got the OEM setup. But...for those who want thus mod, it's ideal...more power to the wheel, bigger tyre, no torque from a shaft etc.XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. Is there any chance to get one of these still? Are they the same as the XSChop chain drive conversion?Comment

Howdy- You did the right thing posting a visitor message, as I see his last "activity" was yesterday. However, this would not work on your 750's, or 850's for that matter, as they are different transmissions.1979 XS1100F
