If you still have the factory 79' SF grab bar I'm interested.

This bike has a 17" rear wheel. If I'm not mistaken, the XJ1100 rear wheel is 16".

Yes Marty, the pictured, Euro XS 1100S 5K7 and the Oceana XS 1100RH 5N5 both have a 17" Italic (swirled) rear wheel in a Nebula Gold finish.

The XJ 1100 which is a native of North America, indeed, sports the 16" Italic rear wheel in black.

For the Euro conversion of my SF I originally thought I was only able to use the XJ 1100 wheels and have them painted gold, which was my impetus on the trade, but by comparing the part numbers on the XS Part Number Finder, Boats.net and at Partzilla.com I was able to secure the proper gold wheels. The front came off of a Virago 920 Midnight and the rear from a Midnight Maxim 750.

I haven't a choice, on size, but if I did I'd opt for the 16" rear, as I'll be using, instead of the 17" to keep the bike and the gearing lower.

The following pic, which is my inspiration for the conversion, is of a prototype that never was produced for the Euro market.

I have secured almost all of the parts necessary and soon should be able to start a thread, documenting the conversion, now that my '80G is off the lift table and running.

I gave it a longgggggg wolf whistle till I saw how out-of-place the gold rims look on the bike. It looks like they're from another bike. The 5K7 on the other hand, the wolf whistle stands without a second thought.

That was my exact first thought Ian, til I kept looking and looking and gawking and studying the similarities along with the differences.

I've looked at it sooooo loooong that if it had the black XJ wheels that I first intended to use it would look just like a Special with XJ wheels, too US for a Euro conversion.

The gold is more of an accent, a Euro stamp, if you will.

If your interested here's a link to the Prototype:

Couldn't you use the wheels from a 81 LG, Italic swirl with the gold finish?

The '80 LG has the straight spoke gold wheels.
But yes I could use the '81 LH Italic gold wheels.
I researched part #'s and surfed ebay for the best deal on the various models' Italic wheels that interchange with the XS 1100.
