  • 79 1100 Special Part out

    Hello all,
I have a 79 1100 special in the garage. She has electrical issues by the bucket full. I have reached my capacity for the project, so I am cutting bait. I have the complete bike. I have $600 invested, so I will offer the entire bike up for $600. This offer is good for 24 hours. 12/30/13 at 1pm eastern, the fun begins.
I am not looking to get rich here, just recoup my investment, so I am going to leave the price of most parts to reasonable offers. PM me with what you are looking for and I will give pictures, description, etc. I will begin reserving parts immediately. Below is a link to a few pictures of the bike and parts. If you need better pictures and descriptions, I will be happy to supply them to you. Shipping will be on your dime, but the method will also be your choice.
    Thanks, and safe riding!

    Hi der verge,
Don't be hasty. We have all experienced the frustration of 30+ year old electrical stuff that does not work. I see you have 21 century bike also so no need to miss the riding season and anyway its months until the snow will clear enough to ride. Take a break and perhaps in a
few weeks you will feel inspired to try again.
The rush of the ride when you do get her running will be worth the effort.

Phil, I hate to say it but I have had enough. Everything I have the ability to go through and test has been done, and this thing still will not run properly. I boiled the carbs, installed new floats, diaphragms, new carb holders, set the timing, rewired the pickup coils, fixed other wires, checked all fuses and connections, and on, and on, and nothing changes. Misfire on 3, misfires on 1 and 4 on occasion. Coils check out as good. At this point I just want to beat the damned thing with a bat until it either runs right, or I feel better. Which ever comes first.

          Whoa pardner !

Help may be closer than you think. I live in Clarkston, have 2 1100,s . Always up to a challenge. In my former career I rebuilt and maintained multiple carb engines Jaguar and the like. Both of my XS,s started out giving me fits, but a few tricks for diagnostics and away we went. I currently own a stable of bikes that ALL run good (for now). Give me a call 248 625 1108

                Alright gentlemen,
I have recovered most of my investment here, so the remainder is gravy. I will hold this stuff for a week of so, then off to the scrap heap. I need to make room for the next project. Lets make this easy, if I don't have a price listed, tell me what you want, and make a low but reasonable offer for it, and I am sure it will find it's way to your mailbox....... here is what is left:

Carb holders from Mikes XS. They are three weeks old. I paid $130+ shipping.
                $60 to your door

I have the full engine. Need a head? Side cover? Starter?

Good parts here. Bike had 8600 miles on it.......
Carburetors have almost $100 in new floats inside. $85 for the set!
$60 shipped for the final drive.

Two gas tanks. The faded one just needs a rinse out and some paint, $50+ shipping
The purple one had a hole welded shut. Needs the remainder of the old liner stripped, re-lined, paint. $30+ shipping

You are saying engine only has 8,600 miles or do you mean since the carbs were rebuilt? Engine/tranny ran/shifted fine with the exception of the electrical maladies you mentioned earlier? I guess the shipping cost on the engine might out weigh the value here? I m over in the Pittsburgh,Pa area. 15601 zip Thanks, Bob

Stripping a bike with 8600 miles on the clock is a sin. Sending parts to scrap without offering them to members at the price of shipping is worth 10 in the hole.

First off, many many parts are spoken for. I will get a list of what is left after work today.
I feel bad scrapping a bike with the low distance traveled, but you gotta do what you gotta do. At this point, I don't want to scrap any of the bike. I know how hard it can be to find good parts for bikes like this. I just don't have the storage to keep the bits forever. Just trying to make the stuff move....

Short list of what is left

Engine (covers, starter, complete) will seperate
                          rear shocks
                          final drive
                          rear sets
                          front calipers
                          rear caliper/master/bracket
                          kickstarter
                          rear brake pedal
wheels/tires/rotors (rotors appear to be in fine shape) will seperate
factory air box complete with new air filter
                          fuel tanks
                          handle bars (LOL)
factory exhaust (servicable I repaired, welded, sealed. not perfect looking, but functional. Missed one small rust hole in the right tail pipe.)

There may be more, but it is getting thin.

As I asked in my earlier post: mileage on engine is 8,600? Did this engine/trans run and shift fine with the exception of the electrical/ignition problems you mentioned? No 2nd gear tranny issues?etc etc. I figure the cost of shipping this is going to outweigh its value,so what would this cost to get it to the Pittsburgh,Pa 15601 zip area? Thanks
