  • WTB: 1980 xs brown (if you will) side covers

Looking for really just the left side cover, but I need the factory brown. If you have this and only want to sell both, I will take both. Broke the tit off of mine so it won't latch.

With super glue and baking soda (or powder I cant remember which) you can rebuild that. I did it to one of my covers a year ago and it still works great.

Stick the part back together ( in my last case a cracked side cover ), I used packing tape to hold the crack together tight then put super glue on the crack on the inside. The packing tape also kept the glue from sipping through to the outside and messing with the paint ( was going to repaint anyway ). I left it for a few hours and then put a little river of glue on the crack cut up an old T-shirt into 1/2" strip and pushed it down along the crack into the glue so that it soaked it up, then added more glue on top and sprinkled with BS . Made a nearly perfect weld and the T-shirt material is helping hold it together and is not very noticeable on the inside. On the outside you could see the crack but it was pretty tight. Used a very little more glue along the crack on the outside and sprinkled little BS on it. Sanded and painted looks great.
Then decided to paint the other side cover ( what a mess ), did not even see the little cracks on all the corners full of wax and had terrible reaction, re-did 4 times before it came out well.

Crack on left side ran from the front mount down 2" all the way around to the back

Right side had reaction from oil/wax in tiny spider cracks

Well that method would probably work.... Except I lost the piece that I broke off it of course was the tiny piece that is slightly wider than the rest of the tab. As of now wrap it generously in electrical tape and jam it in. I just had to re-wrap for the first time in probably 350 miles or so.

By the way, I love the color donebysunday

Thank You ! It reminded me of our own DGXSER's former RUBY.
Think I might call it Ruby Tuesday as I made the deal on Tues. As Don has sold Ruby so is Ruby Tuesday to be, you remember that song ?
So you might be able to use this same process with the the material, super glue and then file or dremel and shape that little hook back onto/into it ?

              Will this work?

Might think about this as a fix:

Well I will say "Ruby Tuesday" was a little before my time (I turn 21 on the 30th) but I'm familiar with it, although not a huge jagger fan. Anyhow, since I am missing the hook, right now what I'm looking at is a bit of small-scale tin work and just screwing a fashioned piece into the very end of the plastic to activate the latch. If I had the piece and I was feeling adventurous, I do have access to a plastic welder, although I have never used one before. Again, a moot point though since the piece is long gone.

That piece may not be as long gone as you think! It may well still be in the lock. Other than the super glue and baking soda fix (which you will have to from with a file or grinder) the Yahmans fix is the best option for sure.

Yes, that will fix it! Let me know you are a member here and I'll include a new rubber grommet for the right side-cover.
