  • I'd like to trade my standard tank for a special tank

Hello folks, I've got a '79 XS1100 standard tank that I'd like to trade for a special tank. I'm building a bobber and I like the looks of the special tank better. My standard tank is rusty on the inside, so be aware of that. I don't mind if your tank is rusty either.

My standard tank comes with the petcocks, but I'll need a set to finish the bike. So if yours comes with petcocks, that would be great.

If anyone is interested, let me know. Thanks! PM me for pictures.

Just so you know, the petcocks between a standard tank and a special tank DO NOT interchange. So you would have no use for the ones on your tank and can only use the special tanks prtcocks.

What kind of shape is the tank in other than the rust? Any dents or dings?

I'd say it's in fair/ poor shape. There are no major dents, but it's pretty rusty inside and out. I haven't even played with the gas cap, I'm assuming that it's been jimmied because the bike came with no key.

Thanks for the advice on the petcocks. I'll leave them in place. I need to do a search on how to post pics so you can see the tank. I've got a seat for it that I won't be needing, maybe someone could use it.

          How to post Pictures

          To post pictures:
          1) Upload to photobucket
          2) Click on the IMG button to get a copy of the link for the picture into the paste buffer
          3) put the cursor in the compose window of the message and hit Ctrl-V, or right click -> paste

A link will appear in the message window that looks like this:
          [ IMG]http://i1267.photobucket.com/albums/jj555/Guy_Peterson/photobucket_zpsa37d754e.jpg[/IMG]

Then you can preview your post to see what it's going to look like before you submit it...

Here's a picture of the photobucket page after you click the IMG button. It shows "Copied" if the button got pressed, sometimes I have to click several times to get the "Copied" feedback.

I bought a spare special tank for my bike, perhaps we can work out a trade. I only have one extra petcock for the tank though and no cap. Please post some pictures of your tank.

You can get caps at Mikes XS. This is less expensive than re-chroming the old cap and replacing the seal, I found out the hard way.

Here's some pictures of the spare tank I have. It has no noticeable dents, light rust inside and a few scratches:

one more, I'll go out later today to get better tank shots

The seat, square headlight are up for grabs too if anyone wants them. I'd like a round headlight for the project.

That looks reasonable, doesn't look any worse than the tank I have. If you can get some close up shots, that would be helpful.

                        bad news

Sorry folks, I was out in the shop taking close up pictures, and I discovered that this tank has a big rust hole. It's no good unless you really want to spend some time welding. Sorry for the false alarm.

If the tank is that rusty, the petcocks are probably corroded too...
