  • 1981 XS 1100H Seat

I have a 1981 XS1100H that I am doing a mild cafe conversion on. As part of the conversion, I was going to take the seat vinyl off, cut the foam and seat pan down to make a solo cafe style seat. As I pulled the seat, I realized that it was all too clean and in good shape - I'd say 8.5/10) to chop up. So, I thought I'd come here to see if there was anyone that had a cafe style seat that they wanted to swap with me. If not and you have a crummy seat (one that I won't feel guilty about cutting), I will work out a swap plus cash deal.

I also have some other stuff, that I will sell (Grab Rail, Tail Light Assembly, Rear Signals, Fairing (unsure if original, but it has the headlight and signals built into it), Crash Bars, Center Stand, Rear Pegs, Gas Tank).

Let me know via email at joevmathews@gmail.com and I will email you pics.

    Thanks.

Keep in mind that the speedo is a weird oddball 2.93 to 1 rather than the standard 2 to 1 that all the aftermarket stuff is.

        Thanks

Nathan: Thanks for the info. I was just posting about my difficulties in finding the right speedo:

ETB Instruments custom makes speedos for $100. The need to know:

        Differential / final drive ratio (e.g. 3.92:1)
Speedometer cable worm and drive gear ratio inside the gearbox (e.g. 3.43:1)

Several folks on the forums told me that the ratio is 2.93:1. Is that the Differential/final drive ratio or the speedometer cable worm and drive gear ratio inside the gearbox? What is the other value that I need?

Wondering if that grab rail would fit my 79 special?.. I'm also looking for a tank with more than a 4 gal capacity..

            I have absolutely no idea!

Lee: Thanks for the inquiry. Unfortunately, I am new to the bike, so I don't know about the interchangeability of the grab rail. The tank paint is crap. But relatively dent free. Recently epoxied on the inside. I have decent emblems, too. But, I don't know to tank capacity.

No, grab rail wont fit 79

81 grab rail only fits 80 and 81. You need the 79 grab rail (78 was built into seat) and one year item.
