  • MINT 80-81 Standard Stock Seat $125

Have a near 'mint" condition stock seat off a 1980 Standard Model..will also fit a 79 XS11 "Special" Model and the 1981 "Standard" Model
Seat was taken-off when bike was new and replaced with a touring seat. The cushion is like brand new with no break-down of the foam seat pad. And also, the vinyl is MINT with no rips tears, or cracks. Was kept inside, heated in the winter, and cooled in the summer for all these years. Has the Yamaha Logo name plate on the rear also. You won't find a nicer stock seat unless you find a one "new" still in the box from Yamaha. Will try to get some pics posted or send me your email address and I'll forward them to you
$125 plus actual shipping chrages to the CONUS only

Ummm... The '79 Special seat is a one-model-only item. If it fits the SF, it won't fit other models, and vise versa - unless you do some "modifying".
    1980 XS850SG - Sold
    1981 XS1100LH Midnight Special (Sold) - purchased 9/29/08
Fully Vetterized and Dynojet Kit added, Heated Grips, Truck-Lite LED headlight, Accel Coils, Irridium plugs, TKAT Fork Brace, XS850LH Final Drive & Black SS Brake lines from Chacal.

Bug, Look at Steve's write up on seat swapablility. The 79 special and the 80/81 standards are pretty darn close to the same lines. (Thou, I do remember there being something about the TCI placement might be an issue)

        IT DOES Fit

I had it on my 79 SF, the only differance is this seat does not have the tapered lip on the front leading edge that goes over the gas tank. I guarantee that it will fit a 79 SF...
Below are some pics of the seat...Last 2 pics shows it on my 79SF

Below is the seat on my 79 SF...will not interfere with the TCI
I just slid it on and tightened the bolts that secure it to the frame of the bike and rode off...

As far as I'm concerned, "pretty darn close" and "the same part" are two VERY different things. Even in the pictures above, the seat obviously does NOT fit right. The space between the seat and the tank is very awkward, as is the space between the grab rail and the underside of the seat. Yes, the bolts may go into the slots, and it might stay on there just fine, bit that seat is NOT designed to fit on an SF.

Are you interested in buying the seat or do you just want to continue to bust my chops? There is nothing awkward about the fitment of the seat, and the only differance between the stock 79SF seat and this seat IS the tapered leading edge that goes over the gas tank...I advertised the seat as a "Stock seat for a 80-81 Standard Model, however IT WILL FIT a 79 SF with the only differance in the nose NOT being tapered

The bike now wears a Corbin tour seat.
