Hi Folks. I'm an XS newbie here. So would those fit a 1980 special? Or were the carbs different in 1980 between the standard and the special?

I think this is for informational purposes only.
Hill? What hill? I didn't see any hill! Why wasn't there a sign? And where are my keys?

The carb intake boots are all the same on all XS1100's. They are double walled, so even if they are cracked on the outside, the inside is what really counts. Easy to check what the inside looks like with the carbs off.
A lot of XSives won't even bother replacing them (as long as the inside is good), just coat them in some plastiDip or other stuff. New ones are just a little pricey ~$70 or so. I saw these and thought someone who's looking to get new ones might want to snatch these up.

Yep, that's what my research has indicated. I just got my '80 special, so I haven't pulled the tank and airbox, let alone the carbs, but I think I'll stick with the ones I've got.

If you haven't found this in your search for info already, then it's good to know about "liquid tape" which is found at hardware stores; is black like the boots, has a brush built into the cap and when applied to your boots makes a wonderful seal that is pretty much invisible when dried. It dries almost as fast as you put it on. It's purpose is to make a waterproof seal on bare wire connections that are soldered or screwed in tightly, instead of wrapping the junction with electrical tape to prevent shorts.

I did it in multiple thin layers to my boots and all the cracks are covered and the boot looks like and is for all practical purposes "as new".

          I love the stuff.

              Check 'em out 1st

Be sure and check out your current intake runners
before you go spending your hard-earned cash
on new ones. These things are ALOT thicker than
you'd think just looking at them on the bike.
AND with the above info on the liquid tape,
that would be a much cheaper route to take
and save more than enough for several tanks
of gas for you to enjoy your ride
              Current Rides:
              02 GL1800 Wing
              79 XS1100SF Sold 10-15-12
              81 XS1100H Venturer Sold 10-27-12

Sorry about any misunderstanding on this. When I started this thread the opening bid was $30. I didn't realize that 17 bids later it would end up at almost $100 after shipping.
I totally agree with all those that have posted on this subject. I just thought this might have been a good opportunity for someone to get a new set cheap.
