  • Diaphram needles

I was working on the carbs of my new 1980 xs1100 and the diaphram (if I'm calling this right) fell off the table and the needle bent. I'm trying to find a place where I can purchase these needles without buying the whole $130+ assembly. Please help

    Welcome to the forum, Mon!

New needles are only available for some models but not for others and new diaphragms and slides won't come with new needles anyway so save your money.

The needle you will need depends which model of 1980 XS1100 you have and where it was sold: Asia, Europe, USA, Canada, Oceania. Look at the serial number on the engine and frame to see which model you have, then compare it with the list in this post:-

According to the numbers I have a G model but my Title says H. Where am I going to find needles or can I straighten the one out that got the tip bent and reuse it? Thanks for the help.

You can try to straighten the needle but you'll have to be good to make it right again.

There aren't any new needles for the '80G so make sure the needle is actually for an '80G. The number 5IZ7 should be stamped on the upper part the needle.

Ok, so I ordered a new dyna jet kit stages 1 & 3. Hopefully that will take care of the needle issue. I also picked up some new float needles from www.partsnmore.com Hopefully I'll have it up and running soon. Thanks for the help.

Stage 1 is supposed to work well as replacement for a stock machine, but stage 3 is intended for a heavily modded engine and will probably not work well. However, several members have reported good luck with stage 1 kits, and that IS the only way to get new needles for the 80G.

yeah, I plan on using the stage 1. I won't put in the stage 3 until I have the money for engine mods. I can't wait to get this bike on the road and give it it's first spin (in years).
