      Tabs are perfect? I don't see a tab at all! 79-82....................

        There is no such thing as a side cover that fits 79 through 82 XS1100 standards. There isn't even any such thing as an 82 XS1100.

        That looks like a 78 or 79 decal for sure, but I know nothing about the side covers other than they won't fit an 80 or 81 standard (I'm not completely sure if 80 and 81 standard side covers interchange), I know with a slight bit of surgery you can move side covers between 79 specials and 80 standards, it's just the top mounts that are different and I think just on the left cover, with the 79 using slots and the 80 having round holes, but I don't know about any of the others.

        But there is a round button tab on the bottom and the slots on the top. I know my right side cover has fittings like that. So I don't see anything broken on it, but I don't know about fitment, cause I just can't picture it in my mind, and the bike it at the wrong angle from my window to see from here.

        PS, I had to blow it up to about 400% to see the tab on there, the picture quality isn't the great.

          That's a '78-79 standard side cover, and it won't fit anything else...
