  • WTB: 79-81 Special exhaust or XJ11 exhaust

I can use a complete 79-81 Special exhaust or just the headers. Same for a XJ11: I can use the complete exhaust or just the headers.

    Thanks

Yes, I'm trying to get an original Yamaha exhaust on my XJ11 will fit without modification. Won't look exactly the same but will be fine. I have a pair of XJ11 mufflers on their way to me but they are missing the crossover pipe. That can be fabricated. The minimum I need to make this work are original 79-81 Special or XJ11 headers.

Good news would be that the headers were double walled and therefore much more durable than the mufflers, so you should be able to find thos ein decent condition. The bad news is the headers were factory welded to the mufflers. Well, the no 1 and 4 headers are factory welded to the 2-1 adapter and the 2-1 is factory welded to the muffler. So the no 2 and 3 headers are slip joints with clamps. So, when the mufflers go bad, it is likely that the entire system would be srapped as it is not easy to tell that the muffler actually slips on the 2-1 outlet and is welded around, instead of being a butt weld.

So...good luck in your endeaver. I actually have the right side headers from an SH. The no 1 header has a dent in it, and I cut the muffler off of it already. May be that only the no 2 header winds up being the only usable piece.
Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

When your work speaks for itself, don't interrupt.
