thanks - i bought it...
measurements didn't match whats on my bike but i'm tired of trying to make the stock stuff fit around the seat since I use a standard touring seat on a special - we will see how it works out.

Ideas needed
OK - the rack is definitely not a bolt on despite the engraved model info:
Here you can see if I hold it up to the holes - the front hole is at least an inch too far back:
From the back you can see the rack is about 2 inches wide on each side of the frame - was it intended to be bolted to something else?
So where do I start to make this fit? I am thinking the aluminum needs to be rewelded with a new side piece.

I'm guessing it was intended to bolt to the outside of the grab bar, as that is IIRC just about how far out the grab bar sticks out. So my guess it that it what it is supposed to connect up to.Cy

Start at the back...
...bolt holes and make collars out of equal lengths of small sturdy pipe that Your bolts go through. For the front, make a "Z" bracket out of 3/16" x 1" bar stock and drill holes accordingly. I would use mild steel for the front brackets and paint them black and if I didn't have any chrome pipe laying around I'd use a snug fitting steel pipe for the rear spacers and also paint them black.HTH1980 XS1100G "Dolly G" Full Dresser (with a coat of many colors )
