Up for part-out is my most current project, a 1978 Yamaha XS11. I bought this bike back in April for $1000, it had clearly been sitting for quite some time, the fellow I bought it from got it as payment for a job and was too burdened with projects of his own to tend to it. It ran when I bought it, had a seized up rear brake caliper, and very old gas. I stripped the bike completely down to the frame and had the frame and other pieces including the trees, fenders, and various engine covers sandblasted and powder-coated. The frame was powder-coated gloss black and the engine covers and fenders were done satin black. I did extensive research (or whatever resources can be found) about bobbers and I decided I wanted the bobber look but not a full hardtail. I bought a set of Harley Sportster lowering shocks for the rear (11.5” eye to eye) and intended on making custom brass bushings for them but never got to it. While everything was apart, I extensively cleaned the motor/gearbox and painted it black and sanded down the cooling fins on the jugs back to silver. Along with the other parts that were sandblasted before powder-coating, I had the gas tank sandblasted, filled the emblem holes, and painted flat black (not powder-coated). Along with the cosmetic work, I had a professional wiring harness designer redo the entire wiring harness. This included testing every sensor, testing resistance across every wire, and wiring up a modern fuseblock instead of the glass-fuse box that the bike was equipped with which are known to be faulty. The connections were heat-shrunk and the harness was then re-wrapped with 3m industrial grade electrical tape. Most other work done was for maintenance such as the carb holders, caliper rebuild kits, etc.
