Std bagger setup won't fit a Special

Bagger setup came off a Standard xs1100. Won't fit a special unless irreversible modifications are made to setup/bike. I found this out after I bought the setup.Your XJ is more like a special than a standard IMHO. Not likely that it would be just a "bolt it on and go" affair. Unless someone else on this site chimes in and says the setup will fit your bike, I'm going with "Nope. It won't fit your bike."

        My 2 cents

I am currently installing 79 STD bags on my 80 special. It is not a bolt on affair. Have to relocate the turn signals to the bag racks. Holes in the racks are not lining up so there is some drilling. But I will get this dang thing cobbled together.

If you happen to break it down, II would be interested in the trunk and floorboard/controls.

Otherwise, how much do you think to ship to NJ, first just the trunk and controls and then maybe the whole kit?

I have bags on my special that I am not sure if I want to keep and the bags I bought for my standard aren't fitting right but haven't looked at them too much yet.

Anywhere I can find some reference material on which brackets fit which ride?

              The Bagger's Dilemma

I did the shipping via greyhound research about six months ago and then put that info in a safe place. So safe that I can't find it now. I'll call greyhound again on Monday and I'll have a price for the shipping to NJ. The bagger parts are already boxed/prepped for shipping inside two large boxes with padding/protection.

The only reference material I've found is my own attempt to install Std bags/brackets onto the rear of my 79 Special. The brackets just didn't match up to the mounting options I had. Close...but not a direct bolt-n-go. I posted something on this site about it and even included pictures but got the big empty as far as results go. I know that the bagger parts I have came off a Std cause I saw the Std they came off of. It was a direct and easy fit with no "heroics" needed to make it work.

Maybe the bags you are trying to put on your standard are for a special???

Thanks Larry, we'll see Monday then what it might cost.

The previous owner had them on a 78 as well and seemed to line up in all the pics he sent me but I can't seem to get them lined up.

I have a '79 Special I got a few months back with bags on it so when I get to stripping it down will compare.

                Thanks again.

                    Bags

I would be interested in the bags and trunk only ,none of the brackets are of any use to me as im mounting them on a 2006 cruiser. I can get them delivered to an addy in Maine. Thats if you will part with those parts seperatly. i would pay you 150.00 plus shipping US dollars. If your interested i can cantact you via phone. Just PM me your number.I dont need the backrest ill make a pad for the trunk.

                      Das Shipping Quote...

Here's a quote from Greyhound on the cost of shipping. It's from one side of the continent to the other so it's probly the max shipping would ever be. (For any of those who have or want to ship an entire bagger setup.) This is for one of the boxes so just double it for the actual cost. Way less than any other freight/shipping carrier I've looked into....

Oh! I figure that whoever buys this setup will need to beef up those front forks so I'm including a TKAT forkbrace as well. It's for a Std and won't fit on my special forks anyways...(sigh.)

                        Back rest

IF you still have the adj backrest and are willing to sell it to me I am interested.
I have a 79 sf with just the luggage rack.

                        Thanks

Complete Std Bagger setup offered...not seperate items.

(sigh...) Somewhere out there in XS world there is someone who wishes that he could buy/have all that's needed to transform his Std into a full bagger. If I break up this setup then he will have to cobble together some bags from one guy....fairing from another.....trunk. He'll have to wait for a good trunk. And these parts will likely be different colors/manufacturers.

Nope. I'm not gonna piece this out. Sorry bout that but there are fairings/bags/trunks/floorboards/etc. out there that are already part of a set which has been broken up.

If this setup doesn't go then I'm not opposed to getting a bare Std and dressing it up.......

                            Well I have a 1979 standard xs1100,
will all this stuff fit without any modifications?
also, I have no skills on how to install all that stuff!
if I drive from Vermont to Washington DC,
will you help with the install?
                            I will bring some beer!

Larrym, are you willing to sell the lower controls and the fork brace separate from the rest of the stuff? I already have the lower bags and a full wind screen. Not too keen on having a fairing or the trunk. That would allow you to keep the bags/fairing together... Let me know, PM me if your willing. Thanks.
